Anamorphic wide screen is when video is the widescreen ratio (not sure what that is at the moment -_-) EoE is the regular screen ratio, the black bars are part of the video. Now, if the black bars weren't part of the video, and the video was the widescreen ratio, than it'd be anamorphic widescreen. (that's what I think anyways :P)

See, I have a widescreen TV and it kinda sucks when I have to watch EoE on the normal settings just because Manga was oh-so-clever by putting the subtitles in the black bars and keeping the video on the normal setting.

Man that sucks. But it's cool you have a widescreen tv! Manga should have known better than to make the black bars part of the video. Think they will do another 'remastered' version? I think they will. Why wouldn't they? They already have the rights. Might as well. I hope they fix the dub a bit. Some of the actors from the tv show were changed in the movie.

How in the hell did that slip out? Is it USA Region 1? Because that looks like its the Australian Madman version. In which case, that would explain why it slipped under my radar. Is Australia the only place where this came out?

I'd also like to know the same thing. The R1 release was delayed....I wonder why....

Also, does this box have the renewed versions of the films?

Death was theatrical only.
Death True^1 was what broadcasted on the TV run in Japan and never released on home video
Death True^2 is what we eventually got.

Hope that answers at least on e question

houtaru wrote:On my DVD the english producers changed some of the sound effects and the scene where Asuka says 'no'. In the original, 'no' just appears on the screen rather than her saying it. I didn't really like that they messed with the original. It would be nice to have an english version closer to the Japanese version.

In the version of EoE that we got, Asuka is SUPPOSED to say "No" out loud. In Japan, there are actually two versions (well, just to simplify) of EoE: The theatrical release and the video (Genesis) release. The Genesis release sort of takes the movie and puts it into an episode format more like the rest of the series. As such, episode #25' has a preview for #26' and both parts of the movie have credits after them: #25' with a shorter version of "THANATOS -IF I CAN'T BE YOURS-" that is just plain text rather than DNA-style, and #26' with a string version of "Jesus bleibet meine Freude".

There are a few other differences between them, as well (which have nicely been summarized by MDWigs before, but of course I can't locate his post at the moment...), including Asuka's line. In the theatrical, Asuka says "No" out loud; in Genesis, her "No" appears as text on a black screen.

Tee hee, I finally found it. This is apparently from MDWigs' site:

The End of Evangelion: Theatrical release Vs. Video release

The End of Evangelion was released in video in two parts in Japan.

"Genesis 0:13" featured episode 25 and episode 25' and "Genesis 0:14" featured episode 26 and episode 26'. For their Video release the episode contained within "The End of Evangelion" were altered slightly to be more in form with the video style of episode. Below is a list of the changes between the Video version of each episode and the Theatrical Version.

The Video Version of Episode 25':

Eye catch: "Neon Genesis Evangelion Episode: 25' Love is destructive."
Credits for just episode 25 are shown at the end to the song "Thanatos - If I Can't Be Yours - (Short Version)"
At the end of the episode there is a preview of the next episode.

The Video Version of Episode 26':

Title screen: "Neon Genesis Evangelion"
In the kitchen scene Asuka's "Iya" (No) is written on the screen, we don't hear it.
Eye catch: "Neon Genesis Evangelion One More Final: I need you."
The caption at the conclusion of the episode says simply "End"
Credits for just episode 26' are shown at the end to a string version of "Jesus bleibet meine Freude"

The Theatrical Version of Episode 25':

Eye catch: "The End of Evangelion Episode:25' Love is destructive."
Credits for both episodes 25' and 26' are shown at the end of episode 25 to the song "Thanatos - If I Can't Be Yours"
There is no preview of the next episode.

The Theatrical Version of Episode 26':

Title screen: "The End of Evangelion"
In the kitchen scene Asuka's "Iya" (liar) is said and not written on the screen.
Eye catch: "The End of Evangelion One More Final: I need you."
The caption at the conclusion of the episode says "End of the movie"
There are no ending credits, just a black screen.

It's basically just someone with a camcorder walking through the Gainax offices. Not as interesting as one might think. There is a really crappy video file of it floating around, if you can find it.

They really aren't anything spectacular. They look like any other animation studio's offices.

Here's a hint: a lot of ugly walls and a mess.

_you can't do anything, so don't even try
_get some help
_don't do what sonic does
