If ADV had the license to the movies they would have repackaged them and sold them about 4 times already.

When ADV does their crazy repackaging thing, its best to just be patient. I agree that Eva will hit Blu-Ray in time, preferably before we all die. ^_^

What is the future of Death, Rebirth & EoE licensing?

Manga's website no longer has the Eva movies, so their licence must have expired.

ADV is too broke, & probably reluctant anyway, to rescue the license.

Funimation could, but maybe will concentrate only on Rebuild.

Which leaves Viz & Bandai as the big players. AFAIK, Viz has never rescued anything, or had any of their lapsed or part-shows rescued. So that leaves Bandai.

What are your thoughts on the US re-licensing of the Eva movies?

Given how long it has taken to see a US release of Rebuild, I wouldn't expect a new release of the Eva films in the near future.

Ridiculous, really, but that's the current state of the US anime industry.

seeing that they are no longer on Mangle's roster brings a smile to my face. and hearing of ADV's brokeness makes that smile even bigger. as now hopefully, someday, the EVA movies will see a valid release without a commentary of DOOM!!!!!1!

Oh lawd.

Personally, I'm hoping this means with the hype about Rebuild, Funimation can grab the license and do justice to bring Renewal Feature Films over here. If not, then... I always have my Region2 DVD and fansubs of it.

Can somebody run this by me again? What's different about the Renewal Rebirth and EoE films aside from cleaned crisper restoration of the original animation? Did the Japanese cast also redub it?

The same difference there is with Platinum (Renewal) and the original series releases: Better audio and visuals, and in ADV's case, the translations are more accurate.

I bumped this thread because I discovered a little bit of bad news (or perhaps good news for some). I listened to the podcast on ANN and they had as a guest Steve Sargent from Manga Entertainement. During the question part, Steve said that Manga did not have the rights to EOE anymore. If you care to listen; www.animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2009-11-06

I believe that would be good news, yes, considering that they've done nothing but sit on those rights for years now.

I wonder if this means Funimation will be able to snatch the rights to Renewal Death/EoE?

I would not be shock if Funimation doe release Renewal Death/EoE. They would likely put in a double pack tin like they did with the DBZ movies.

Axell: IIRC, both single volume releases of Death/EoE (DTS collector's edition and the normal edition) are on DVD, though knowing Japan they'll release the series on BluRay at some point or another. :P

It'd be nice for FUNimation to get those rights. What's stopping them? They got Rebuild. Now let's see if they'll go for Death and EoE.

I have a suspicion that Sentai/Section23 will fight for them. David Williams (when they were ADV) kept implying they were trying to get the movies, and as he put it, "Eva prints money."

Since Sojitz is out of the picture, they'd probably have an easier time of getting the movies.

Sentai/Section23 (when they were ADV) seemed really random about when they'd get extras rather than produce them themselves, and FUNimation is random about that too. I just hope whoever does get it A) releases it so I can buy it, and B) has at the very least, the deleted live action sequence on the DVD.
Though if Sentai/Section23 gets the rights to the movies, I wouldn't be too surprised if we get the full-OP and the full-ED.

I believe in the director of Eva 1.11.
