A lot of people take the figure on the first DVD box as a girl, so it can't be that.

I'm specifically referring to the artists Shinchan favors, who (presumably) know good and well that Shinji's a guy. They aren't sticking him in dresses because of an androgynous DVD cover.

Shinji loved Kaworu out of convenience because he had nothing else, while I think Kaworu really cared for Shinji.

If you're blind try to contact a doctor, Tines probably wanted to say that Gainax itself effeminated Shinji to begin with, it wasn't something started by malicious fans. Also, unlike what you're trying to say effeminated Shinji isn't really exclusive of KxS circles, try to check out Asuka XXY! (it's the first title I can think of but there are others as well, even without futa) and let's talk about it again.

Does it really matter? Even Asuka more or less tried to do something with Shinji out of convenience, the cause of his feelings doesn't make them less authentic because people always act out of convenience, let's be honest about it.
