Can anyone tell me where in gods green earth can I find a DVD copy of End of Eva that DOESN'T cost 100 bucks? Seriously, it's just the DVD and case I want, why is it so hard to find?!
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

I would wholeheartedly NOT suggest IMing me for a lead on a legitimate way to watch it without spending that much money.

That would be silly.
When I say you are a monster,
When I set fire to your name,
It does not matter where they hear it from,
Whether truth or lies, it gets said all the same!

I'm not a big fan of the used section, but I guess I'm in no position to be picky.

It really is something that currently you can get the entire TV series new for $40 and it often costs more than that for a used of EoE on the secondary market. The ironic thing is that I paid less that $40 in total for my 2 Japanese copies of the movies (KIBA-105/6 + KIBA-1209/10) on eBay...

Dude, manga's license for The End of Evangelion has been expired for five years now. They haven't been printing it for longer than that. You will not find a brand new copy, you will need to buy used. Fortunately for you, anime fans generally take good care of their DVDs. I've bought MULTIPLE used Evangelion DVDs, including two sets of Death and Rebirth and End of Eva, and they've all been in excellent condition.

Maybe you could get the UK release, but it's kinda expensive on Amazon.co.uk (39.95£) and it's also Region 2 and PAL, you should check if your player is compatible.
Also both US and UK editions suck a lot, the Italian one uses the Renewal masters but no English subs, so I doubt that you could be interested (and it's also R2/PAL).
So let’s make a wish.

That's a terrible idea. If you're that desperate that you're going that road, you should just get it off of bittorrent.

^it was just a suggestion, unfortunately the Eva releases (manga, series and movies) are a complete mess in the US.

The series release in the US is pretty good, a little bloated, but still decent and reasonably priced.

@OP: It's only a hundred bucks. There are worst series out of print that cost more than a hundred bucks.

No, I was referring to different releasers for the series and the movies, out of print and unlicensed movies and the famous 9th volume of the manga mentioned recently in the other thread. The series release itself is fine, unfortunately it's interlaced and without decent extras but I've seen worse releases. Anyway I wonder what will happen in the future, I suppose ADV invaded the market with DVDs and for the time being it'll be widely available but when it'll be out of print what will happen? Does Section 23 still hold the rights? Or it's going to happen the same thing that happened with Death and EoE?

I think it's time I auction off my extra D&R and EoE set for RIDICULOUS PROFIT.

Normally I don't advocate things like this, but just pirate it. Unless you know Japanese, you won't be able to find a decent release.

If you wanna feel better about pirating it, you can buy the Japanese Renewal release AND then just get the zx fansub that's based on the same high-quality video.

Or if you wanna feel really A-Ok with it, you can rip the Japanese dvd by yourself, mux some subtitles off from interwebz onto the video and master it back onto DVD-R by yourself. No, I don't know if that's really legal either, but I do know I have hard time seeing it unethical.

Personally, I'm just happy I was around to get both D&R and EoE (and Perfect Collection nge box) when they were released. This January I finally got off my stingy arse and bought the platinum collection, too. But when I actually watch Evangelion, I just fire up the zx fansub sitting on my HD (also useful for looking up things relatively quickly in the middle of arguments) and don't even feel the slightest bit bad about it.

...actually, now that we are on the case, I have been thinking about getting the Japanese renewal release (of EoE only, D&R is quite useless for me honestly). [s]Any suggestions how to go about that?[/s] Edit: nevermind, found that info already.

The Renewal Feature Films include Death and EoE, no Rebirth. Info here (so happy this site's up!): http://svenge.pcriot.com/evasite/jprenew/KIBA1009.htm & http://svenge.pcriot.com/evasite/jprenew/KIBA1209.htm

CDJapan's probably one of the best sites to buy it from: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/

Did some price shopping for the Dolby Digital version (KIBA-1009) on 3 major online shops that ship internationally:

Amazon.co.jp ¥6266 incl. express shipping to the US.
HMV.co.jp ¥6,700 incl. express shipping to the US.
CDJapan.co.jp ¥6200 incl. economy shipping to the US, ¥7000 incl. express shipping to the US.

You're looking at about 80 bucks based on current exchange rates. If you want the DTS Collector's Edition (KIBA-1209) which identical in content, but with a DTS 5.1 track @ 1509kbps instead of a Dolby Digital 5.1 track @ 448 kbps, it is about 100 bucks. I miss the days when $1 > ¥100 instead of the current $1 < ¥80...

Well yeah. KIBA-1209 orderd from yesasia.com thanks to their free shipping. Now to hope that Euro does not plunge down against USD before they ship and bill that order... :P ($94.24 is something like € 67 right now.) Thankyouverymuch, Greece and european finance sector (*grumble grumble*)... okay, I guess *our* buttheadedness isn't helping any right now.

It looks like Euro has been holding against USD, it's the exchange rate with Yen that is troublesome (USD is going to have its troubles as well in the case of default or lowered rating of US sovereign debt).

some Finnish people are aware of that, there's still hope in Europe.

It shouldn't change more than 1-2 percent based on what I've read in the news, barring a unforeseen acceleration of the Greek financial crisis and/or the US Congress being completely idiotic and not resolving the debt limit legisation impasse. However, most of the current risk has already been priced into the market. My guess is that the final collapse of the Greek situation will take place in a few months, and that the US situation will be fixed at the very last minute.

But back to the topic, the KIBA-1209 set is great. It beats the pants out of the US and European releases, which were all released before the Renewal boxset was completed and thus based on the original non-anamorphic transfer used on the Japanese KIBA-105/6 set from 1999. You'll love it.
