New straight sword arrived last night.
"classy as fuck" is the only way I can describe it. The 32" blade is much more rigid than I expected, but I can't complain about it (almost anything is better than modern competition-grade wushu steel) given how durable and maneuverable it is. The bloodline down the center is shaped in such a way as to make an awesome whoosh sound when it's swung, and that's pretty cool (if somewhat stupid, too). The handle construction is extremely solid and the design of the guard is both beautiful and practical. Grip changes and flower palms are ridiculously comfortable and easy to do with this baby. It's like I'm palming a woman's pert breast every time I play with the grip.
I have two minor complaints about it, however. At about 3" into the blade from the guard, its balance isn't quite as good as I'd predicted it would be. But that's still pretty good considering the weight of the sword and the grade of the blade. The other minor complaint I have is regarding the handle and sheath; although solidly constructed, they both feel like they're made of fiberglass or some sort of plastic or PVC. I really wish these could have been of a wood construction simply because wood absorbs moisture easier, which makes it is easier to grip.
It's a fantastic sword apart from those issues, though. I have another one coming in at some point, hopefully within the next month. The sword I've been using is pretty old and somewhat busted; we've now replaced the face plates on the guard and pommel with roofing copper and soldering the joints, but it's still comparatively ungainly with crummy balance (about 6" from the guard) and some rust issues that I still haven't totally fixed. I still like it a lot, though, since it's spring steel blade has made it a wonderful sword to train with. I've promised it to a friend of mine, at least until he gets around to buying his own. The one he's been using is a little short for him, and he's also tired of the wushu competition-grade blade. It can be a little difficult to locate straight swords with only a moderate flex to them, since most places now only want to sell the utterly flimsy things for flashiness rather than decently-weighted with a greater heft.
SPOILER: Show

... I"m sorry, I"m sure the sword is awesome, but that carpet is way too distracting. Are you an eighty-year old Polish woman? ... Or do you live with one?
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

"No you wouldn't. Oz's secret is he goes without food to buy that stuff. He hasn't eaten in years." - Brikhaus
"Often I get the feeling that deep down, your little girl is struggling with your embrace of filmfaggotry and your loldeep fixations, and the conflict that arises from such a contradiction is embodied pretty well in Kureha's character. But obviously it's not any sort of internal conflict that makes the analogy work. It's the pigtails." - Merridian
"Oh, Oz, I fear I'm losing my filmfag to the depths of Japanese pop. If only there were more films with Japanese girls in glow-in-the-dark costumes you'd be the David Bordwell of that genre." - Jimbo
"Oz, I think we need to stage an intervention and force you to watch some movies that aren't made in Japan." - Trajan

-On EMF, as a thread becomes longer, the likelihood that fem-Kaworu will be mentioned increases exponentially.
-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

In case no one noticed the background of my photos changed a month ago when I moved to the bigger room. In my old room the only suitable spot to place the haul on was my bed, hence wrinkled sheets. Nowadays there's enough room on my desk and the lighting is decent enough.
