Probably you should first install OS's patches and upgrade both antivirus and browser(s), you can take care of the other programs on per-need basis (well, this is just my experience with reborn PCs).

I struggled with that a week ago (since I've never had the driver CDs and whatnot), but my brother-in-law managed to fix the PC this week - now I only need to get all files and software I need on it.

Well as it turns out, the Panasonic 3DO has no copy protection or region lock, so it's very easy to burn an ISO to a CD and play. The system also has a LOT of abandonware, so playing copies is also mostly legal. If I find a few solid games, I might track down legit copies, but so far, most of it is shit. That's what happens when you treat a video game system like it's a VCR.

Well, that was my point, I've never heard much about great, exclusive, 3DO titles, I was wonder if I was wrong since after all I never spent too much time checking it out.
View Original PostThe Eva Monkey wrote:The system also has a LOT of abandonware, so playing copies is also mostly legal.

I've nothing against piracy but the concept of "abandonware" is often stretched beyond its limits, someone could still hold the rights of failed software houses, usually their creditors or someone that could have purchased/obtained them from the creditors.

Oh, lookit here what I got in mail this Friday:

Image
Image

EoE might very well be the movie I have watched most times in my life, and since I always watch it from zx fansub these days, I kinda "had" to get this one.

Funny thing is that I was already prepared to juggle with customs for a purchase valued 65 euros (would have had to pay additional 15 euros more for those and haul my ass to the customs office) but yesasia.com sent it automatically without even asking me as "gift" and "value $ 8" which meant it went right through customs without problems. (if the sales tax and customs fees do not exceed 10 euros, they automatically let it through) In this case they decided to trust the markings over the package which was kinda nice for me. :D

I have the regular version of Renewal Death/EoE, it's good stuff. The main difference between normal and DTS is sound quality, no? (I think somebody told me getting the DTS version would be pointless unless you have those DTS speakers.)

I don't own them, but there's also a difference in the "overscan", the black bars on the right and left part of the video, the DTS edition has less overscan, thus more video compared to the regular edition. The DTS edition has also a slightly lower video bitrate because DVD Video has a maximum allowed bitrate resulting from the combination of video, audio, subs and overhead (DTS audio bitrate is higher than DD one so they had to reduce the video bitrate) but apparently this is not a big issue from what I've heard.
Well, excellent purchase BiQ, I should grab it as well sometime in the future.

Got my salary for the first two weeks of alternative service so I made a new order (and saved the rest of it for next year):

- Hirokazu Koreeda's Distance: This is one of the 3 Koreeda films I haven't seen yet and I've decided to collect them all on DVD.
- Ringo Shiina's Shoso Strip: Just listened to this baby in its entirety for the first time and it BLEW MY MIND. Ringo is freakin' insane.
- Taeko Onuki's Sunshower: More funky music by a female singer/songwriter.

To be honest, $100 for a microphone like this is a pretty good deal. In my case especially so, because I can use it for a variety of things. Probably not for you, I imagine the most you would use it for would be Skype, and an inexpensive $15-20 mic would be fine for that.

Yeah, that's what I thought, especially for a mic as nice as this.

I have some dubbing and voice recording things I might use it for, but most of that is done with my friend's stuff, and nothing in the near future, so you're probably right that it isn't worth it for me. I do have an amateur film making and animator friend though that might be very interested in getting his hands on a mic of this quality, so I'll pass the details on to him.

Ah, it's such a great feeling to discover these brand new DVDs in the mailbox right after an exhausting day at work.

The one on the right is the DVD release of Perfume's Triangle Live Tour! :w00t: I'm going to watch it for the first time tonight. It should be a blast since it's regarded as their best live DVD ever.

Awww, Virginia Woolf. You are so adorable EvangelionFan. I want to give you a big hug.

It's also worth mentioning that Black Swan cover is way cooler than the one we have in the States.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

"I agree Hans, but we have talked about those anal fisting analogies." -Werner Herzog

Yeah, the UK Edition of Black Swan had the best cover; and the clear plastic case instead of the standard blue case really helps it.

On the other hand, the UK Edition of Donnie Darko is probably the version I shouldn't have got. It is the edition that came out in 2010, so the extras are good, sadly the back cover is both bland and vague about the special features. And, to make it less appealing, the US 2011 Edition says that it has two Blu-Ray Discs and a third DVD disc of special features. I'm still going to keep this edition of course, but if a edition more worth owning comes out I'll probably get that and trade this one.

Today was incredible.

To start off with, I ineffectually wrestle with the college bureaucracy over nonsense that I thought had already been resolved. That put me in a sour mood. BUT SUDDENLY

SUDDENLY

JUST WHEN I WAS EATING LUNCH, THE DHL GUY, PAINTED BRIGHTLY IN HIS VICTORIOUSLY SHINING OSCAR-MEYER COLORS, ROLLS ON IN

And I thought

NO FUCKING WAY

And he gave me this thin-ish package and almost drove the wrong way down my street.

I swear taking this out of the package nearly made my head explode:

rauaruaghghhhh

I’m writing a review for it currently. I’ll watch it again tomorrow, since I didn’t have the time tonight. I seriously had what might be considered unrealistically high expectations for this movie, and somehow it managed to meet just about all of them... absolutely incredible animation and mind-blowing artwork, with a surprisingly charming and likable story, too--and of course, a great soundtrack and outstanding voice work. But good god, I'm not sure if it's healthy to try driving after watching this thing.

And if that wasn’t enough, the USPS guy needed a signature on another package

I didn’t expect this at all, but christ, this is the best. Goddamn. I don’t even know what to say. “WHOO LOVELY ANGELS PORN” somehow doesn’t cover my exuberance. Same goes for Tony Taka putting his skills to use and being a productive member of society by giving us such wonderful illustrations of cartoon girls in lewd poses and erotic situations.
