I knew from reading the ANN review that this was going to be a loose adaptation, but until you see it you don't realize how loose it is. It is not just a running time issue. The location and time switch are big (i.e. Germany to Japan and the future vs. ~17-18th century) and the characters who do make transition to live action were dramatically changed.
I would like to see the Hangeki no Noroshi miniseries as those cover Hanji and Sasha with some ridiculous training scenes from what I could see from a Vietnamese upload.
It is not as bad as I thought; for some reason I'd conflated the single mom and Sasha in my mind, which if true would be understandably upsetting. When my misapprehension was corrected I was left with merely "this is bad and I don't want to see more" vs. "this is a horror show and needs desperately to die in a fire."
