can somebody provide a link to view or download torrents of the director's cut versions of those episodes please?
I watched the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV show and films for the 1st time in January 2014. Heartbreakingly sad but so beautiful too. I'm here to discuss theories about what happened in the show.

Illegal material isn't allowed here, but it shouldn't be problem to find Streams or Downloads for the Platinum Edition.

I meant the scene where Shinji strangles Asuka, the whole confrontation. It's actually my favorite scene from the whole Evangelion canon as well. I don't know, I just really felt... despair, so powerful and raw.
I could hide familiar in my pain

or I could step right outside
and show you that I'm alive

The tangled mess of emotions that are dragged up within me during that scene are difficult to describe.

Do I feel sad, of course, but it's intertwined with so much else that it can be hard to pick up on and distinguish from the tangle of emotion.

I guess the best way to describe it would be that it makes me feel uneasy, conflicted, and just all around bad. It represents Shinji's final attempt to try and get close to someone, his last shot a being able to believe in life as he knows it, and when it all comes tumbling down, so to speak, it's just such a powerful and jarring moment that it throws my brain into disarray. Despite the fact that it is one of my favourite scenes from the series, and that I've viewed it explicitly many, many times, I still don't know how I'm supposed to feel throughout.

For that reason, it's not the saddest part of Evangelion for me. It probably should be, but the fact that it throws my emotions out of whack so much, and mangles them so profusely, means I simply can't react properly to the heartbreak occurring before my eyes.

Ritsuko saying to Gendo that she never was happy even when he made love to her during the scene he interrogates her for destroying the Rei clones. Just about any scene with Ritsuko post-episode 23 hits me hard.

The saddest part for me was during the beginning and middle of Episode 23, where Asuka starts relly going down the drain and then just gets wiped out.

For me it is, and will always be, the mutilation of EVA 03 / Toji. I don't even like Toji that much, but this scene alway makes me feel devastated, no matter if it's in the original series, the manga or any of the movies.
I can't really explain why, but despite the many injustices in Evangelion, this is the biggest one for me.

Shinji was the only good thing to happen to her throughout the series, but then she dies, gets replaced and can't remember a damn thing about him. In that light, I suppose I'd consider Episode 23 to be the biggest downer in the entire series.

While it's true that Evangelion in and of itself is a tragic series, Rei is easily the most miserable of the bunch. I have to wonder what was seriously going on in Sadamoto's head when he created her.

EDIT: On second thought, that's a little unfair; Sadamoto created the character, and quite an interesting one at that, but the series direction and stuff was all Anno. Guess I can't complain too much, given Evangelion as a whole is a masterpiece, I just wish they didn't have to do Rei in as badly as they did.

that scene was actually MORE brutal on my second runthrough of the show. in fact, my second runthrough of the show was entirely more horrible than the first. and for some reason, i can really see hedgehog's dilemma playing during Rei ii's death, idk why. tbh tho i think Misato's death might be sadder but, it's a hard, hard choice for a hard, hard show. toji's "death" was also some crazy shit, but moreso the first time around. and eva 03 gettin rekt in the rebuilds hits significantly less hard, seeing as you've seen that scene before. bonus: the most anxiety inducing scene is watching eva 01 hold kaworu. that was horrible.

also, we should really add a poll feature. for this kind of stuff. we add like, every moment possible, and then vote on the saddest one.

Rei's demise & just about everything in the aftermath.

Also the sequence at the start of ep 24 where Shinji is standing there in front of the crater reflecting on how everyone he ever cared about either moved away or was met with some horrible fate, all while he didn't feel able to help much

Asuka mindrape scene. Really sad and hyper disturbing, too.The first time, I watched it on youtube in August, before starting the serie in September, and fuck did it disturb me!
