Well, if they were indeed after Lilith, the main reason would be to kill it in order to be able to really establish an Adam-based world. After all Lilith can be considered as they number one enemy.

The problem in NME is that there isn't ONE Adam. There seem to be tons of them. Do we even know the cause of second impact? And if the angels were after the Adams... Why would they attack Tokyo?

For example, unit 06 is probably one of these Adams if it was excavated. But has it been targeted by angels? Nope...

Ok well, now when I think about it, I think it would be safe to assume that the angels might be after Lilith after all. Maybe that's why it's badly damaged in 3.0, who knows. After all it's pure speculation, but I find it frustrating that we can only cross our fingers and hope that 4.0 will answer those question. And I highly doubt it knowing Anno.

It's already hard to follow, so throwing a 14 years gap without explaining what happened during that time skip is a new level of trollery.

Okay, so Unit-01 is made from Lilith. Thus is is the body of Lilith. Rei has the soul of Lilith. If Rei is in Unit-01, then it can be said that the body and soul of Lilith are reunited. Thus Unit-01 is the ressurection of Lilith. Maybe the Mark-06 was what Seele wanted to use for this vessel, but Gendo managed to make it so it would be Unit-01 instead.
I'm not sure what I feel about Eva anymore, but I'm pretty sure I don't actually enjoy the series anymore.

I think they're just assuming that, since it hasn't been stated that it's any different than NGE, Unit-1 is the same in that respect.

Yeah, just assuming based on it bieng the case in the original. The whole line of reasoning is pretty shakey anyways.

Going by the series+EoE, seele calls unit-01 Lilith's true offspring. So I would agree unit-01 must be Lilith in flesh. But I disagree that it is Lilith's soul, as the soul of an angel can't be replicated.

If mark-06 is truely an Adam from 2nd impact, it is a pure angel with a true angel's ego, making it, in essence, a "true" evangelion. So perhaps seele considers it "true" simply for what it is, rather than for some speculated purpose.

As for the 12th angel, it would make sense for the angel to deal with mark-06 as an immediate threat. Rather than hastily initiating an impact on Lilith and leaving itself vulnerable as Adam did, it would seek to destroy the Eva first. And if the 12th angel is as powerful as we're making it out to be, we insert the last-ditch, "trap-the-angel" plan here.

You're going on a whole lot of assumptions + original series material there. Given how 3.0 has shaped up I'd be very cautious about bringing in anything from the original series any longer, especially with a new entity like Eva-06.

I really wonder if Eva-06's head is shown this time? From the looks of 1.0 and 2.0, Eva-06 has the most human head of any Evangelion (apart from the huge number of skulls lying around). If the two Mark numbers (06 and 09) have a similar head, then the Adam - Mark theory has genuine credence.

True, things have changed greatly. Aside from Gendo calling unit-01 Yui in 2.0, no other mentions have been made about the other Evas' souls. So for all we know, unit-02 may just be another eva and have no connections to Asuka...

I hope mark-06 will have further relevance to the story tho... I doubt losing its head is a mortal blow *coughUNIT09cough* (even unit-02 got its head cut off in series but that didn't keep her down, did it?)

Eva-02 was incapacitated without its head in the old series, but its Rebuild avatar functions well even with its brains exposed. I suppose they just made the Evas a lot more resilient this time around. Unlike the Mark. 06, Mark.09 didn't have a snake-like Angel residing inside it and had intact innards, which is probably why it continued to operate just fine. And there was that spear too.

I guess that scythe was meant to decapitate an Eva and keep it dead. It makes no sense to leave the Mark.06 operable.

When Mark.09 continues to function while headless, Mari concludes that it's an "Adams' Vessel". This term is used persistently up through the end of the movie. (All mentions should be available here.)

As I understand it, Mark.06 activates after the Spear is pulled out, THEN its head is cut off, THEN it deactivates and the Angel comes out. With the precedent set by Mark.09, I don't know why decapitation would disable Mark.06, though I imagine things might become clearer once we have the visuals.

Probably because it didn't have a pilot......? O.o? I mean mark09 still had Rei piloting it... Idk haha. But I'm sure it can be repaired.

And as for deliberately intending to kill mark06, it would make less sense in my opinion to waste a good eva. If it can be salvaged, then why waste it? There may be 14 evas in the movies thus far(00 to 13), but they're not exactly cheap to produce. And if its tru that unit 02 buys the farm, then the only evas left are 01, 06, and 08(did 13 die?)

RIP units-00, 02, 03, 04, 05, 09, and maybe 07,10,11,&12...

Random fanwankery...

Rebuild 2.0 ends at Zeruel. According to original continuity there are some leftover angels which haven't showed up yet, namely Arael and Armisael.

Lets assume that NERV gets the dummy system working with Unit 06. Hence "independent type". Lets also pretend Arael never shows up.

Armisael shows up. The fight proceeds pretty much as it did in the TV series, with the angel merging with Unit 06 instead of Unit 00.

Shinji isn't there to motivate a selfless act of sacrifice, so the takeover is complete. Rather than let an infected Adam-based Eva reach Lilith and trigger another impact, they spear the infected Unit 06 and seal it up in terminal dogma.

This to me seems a plausible chain of events. It lacks only one thing: any evidence whatsoever.

Charsi's comment does make a lot of sense. That explains a lot in terms of why Mark.06 might have been sealed with the angel inside. Reiichu's comments made sense as well.

If Mark.06 was made into an independent type using a fully functional dummy system and was taken over by armisael then that seems really plausible. The only problem with that theory is the plot development built up from then. Having an awakened Mark.06 with Kaworu (who is supposedly confirmed to be an angel) piloting it and having him take it to terminal dogma and leaving it there to be then made into an independent type, doesnt seem to fit that much. If Kaworu in rebuild has the same amount of power that he had in the NGE tv series, then he could've easily kept Armisael from taking over his Eva, since his AT field is the strongest.

Until we actually see the movie, we wont be able to confirm a lot of things that we're speculating. For instance, is Unit-13 destroyed for good or was it just damaged and now it sitting pilotless for Seele to take it back? Is Mark.06 truly deactivated or just in a comatose state until its head is put back on? Or was Seele's plan with Lilith already put in motion outside of our view since both Mark.06 and Lilith were pierced by lances and Lilith's body fell apart? Anno really likes to tease us by taking away the middle part of the puzzle and leaving us to wait until he decides what he wants to tell us.

In reply to the above; Evangelion 13 is relatively intact IIRC after Fourth Impact is averted. It starts falling to back down to Earth, Mari pulls Shinji's entry plug out, and it crashes down. That's the last that's seen of it in Q.

Is Mark.06 truly deactivated or just in a comatose state until its head is put back on?

From what I can remember of Mark.06, it got absorbed by Evangelion 13 when Fourth Impact was initiated - Along with the remains of Lilith and whatever else was in that enormous mass of red goo (12th Angel?). Either that, or it just got even more obliterated after Mark.09 struck it with the scythe.

I wonder if we'll see any of the missing Evas? I guess Anno just wanted to skip to the unlucky 13. Wonder if Unit-07 is lucky?

Still dissapointed if this is all the Mark-06 amounts to after two movies of build.

ABSORBED? That seems kind of... :um:

Did Mark.06 actually turn into goo like Lilith, or did it just kind of become unaccounted for off-screen after the beheading? (It did get beheaded, right?) Also, another question... Was Mark.06 actually Speared, or were both of them in Lilith?

By the way, I've heard that the 12th Angel comes out of Mark.06, but not a whole lot about precisely how. There's one shot of 06 in trailers, a close-in on the visor, and it's glistening red like a core and you can't see the Eva's eyes. Is that the Angel about to come out? (...Does it come out of the Eva's eyes?)

Hiten777: "Armisael" doesn't exist in this version of Eva, and they've been cannibalizing it for spare parts ever since the last movie (cf. 10th Angel). Better to say "12th Angel".

"Independent" suggests, to me anyway, that Mark.06 doesn't even rely on a dummy plug. Kaworu might have said "dummy plug-type" were that the case, instead of something as bizarre as "independent-type".

Yep, Mark.06 is speared; in the pose of pushing the Lance through it's own chest a la the MPEs in EOE. It's also kind of half merged/formed with Lilith, and the second Lance is kind of behind Mark.06, going down and through Lilith.

Ugh, bit hard to explain, haha. Sorry. But it's all very "heavy" visually.

ABSORBED?

Yeah. I'm pretty sure. The whole red mass is absorbed into Eva-13. It kind of chomps it all down in one bite, haha. It looks really cool and terrifying.

It did get beheaded, right?

Actually, I couldn't really remember this part until I read it on here, and it kind of clicked. It happens very quickly, but again, I'm pretty sure...

By the way, I've heard that the 12th Angel comes out of Mark.06, but not a whole lot about precisely how. There's one shot of 06 in trailers, a close-in on the visor, and it's glistening red like a core and you can't see the Eva's eyes. Is that the Angel about to come out?

Yep. I've seen the screenshot you're talking about, the one with the shimmering visor, and that's exactly when the screen starts flashing "12th Angel detected" (etcetera) and there's this piercing wail/screech. This is another hard one to explain, because it happens really fast - You don't see the Angel itself clearly (not that I noticed), it's kind of formless. But it seemed to just spirit out of Mark.06 and go straight into a great ball of red goo with the remains of Lilith.

Note; the red mass forms an embryonic-like shape before shifting into shapeless mass/ball.

Well, "relatively intact" for Evangelion 13 probably isn't the word - It would have some heavy superficial damage from the fall at least. Unit-08 though? It's practically completely fucked. They have to stitch the remains of it and Unit-02 together to make another Evangelion (The one seen in the 'Next time' preview post-credits). So you can write 08 off as a wreck, for sure.
