Why not allow the OP of a thread to lock it? And unlock it, too, but only if the OP was the one who locked it in the first place.

Let's say I start a thread, and want it to be locked. Under the current system, I have to either try to derail it or PM one of the staff. If I want to unlock it, I'm most likely out of luck.

Under this proposed system, If I start a thread and want to lock, I've just gotta click on a button, and if I wanna unlock it, I do the same.
But if Mr. Modguy locks it, and I wanna unlock it, I'm still out of luck.

Is this possible?

I said and did some dumb and hurtful things in my time here when i was younger. If i ever hurt you, i'm sorry. If you see any of this while reading old threads, i'm learning and trying to improve. Donut redemption arc in progress.

90% of the time there's a mod around or there will be shortly. It works just as well to PM a mod asking for a thread lock.

It's phpBB. Anything is possible! But I agree with the others -- this shouldn't be necessary unless you're suffering from a shortage of mods. Besides, why would creating a thread entitle you to be able to lock it? What if you want to lock your thread because you didn't like how it turned out (or whatever), but other people are still happily posting in it? As OP, should you do that? I wouldn't... but please bear in mind that I just started posting here and am lacking in expertise.

Possibly, with some modification, but I don't think this is necessary. You can always request a lock.

All the forums I've been and read in never done this (for good reason), so why should this forum be any different?

I think the strongest argument against this is that it does not make too much sense for the thread creator to be able to end the discussion in the thread he/she created just because he/she starts to dislike the direction of how the discussion goes, even though the discussion does not contravene the forum rules and other people still want to participate in the discussion.

It's just a random thought that popped into my head, and I wondered what the others thought.

This would really benefit a couple of RP threads, a few less spammy posts and such.
