Well, he finally had to. He was 90 and ill.

But goddamn it...I just finished reading his complete Space Odyssey series yesterday! Well, maybe yesterday afternoon, but I was still reading 3001 when he passed!

That gentleman was far, far ahead of his times. Now the last of the "big three" science-fiction writers is no more, and an Era in Sci-Fi is officially and completely over.

What astronaut Frank Poole said in 3001: That for human beings, Love and Death are the most important in life.

Rest in peace, Arthur C. Clarke.

Or how Asimov paraphrased laws one and three.

Asimov and Clarke were the first two "real" science-fiction writers I read, and they both taught me how to think about the future. Clarke in particular inspired me to know the science, and think about what was really possible.

It was the same with me. I read Rendevous with Rama a long time ago, and later picked up I, Robot.

And I do feel the same way about Clarke- he makes you think about what is really possible.

Clarke was a genius and will be sorely missed.

Don't scare me like that!

I saw "Clarke" in one of the links you posted and thought Dick Clark had died. I'm not sure I can handle Ryan Seacrest every New Years Eve, so I was a little freaked for a moment.

Every time I think that I'd like to meet a sci-fi author, he dies within a couple of months. First Douglas Adams, then Arthur C. Clarke. It's just two, but still...

...

Well, I might have been a little wrong about when he died, so I at least finished reading the Space Odyssey series before he passed away, but...like BobBQ said, he was a genius and he'll be sorely missed. I'll miss him even if I never knew him.

I'm surprised I hadn't found out about this sooner. He was and still is one of my heroes. Brilliant man. I'm sure he and his work won't be forgotten.

I just finished the series two weeks ago [Space odyssey], man. He was a brilliant man, he lived a long life, and he was famous [At least in the older generations, none of my classmates know him]. He lived a good life.
Rest in Peace, Sir Clark.
[I was gonna make this thread too, but uder the title End of the Odyssey]

You say "Sir Arthur" -- Sir takes the given name.

Also not enough love for The City and the Stars -- the only book of his that has really stood the test of time.
