Birdy the Mighty Decode season 2: it was a consistently good series overall, but the final episode is infamous for a reason, as the sakuga goes way too experimental. I'm not talking about your average speed effect distortions but rather dynamism at a level of characters melting into ink sploches shot through a cannon. The limited budget of a TV show doesn't help matters, as the action tries to go blockbuster epic, but the low frame count partially cripples the attempt. And the epilogue is unnecessarily short, especially compared to how perfectly season 1 wrapped itself up. Other than that, it was a pretty fabulous experience. Birdy is in many ways "just" a well-executed generic action anime, but it's also boldly distinctive in other ways, for example how despite all the trappings present, it completely avoids being a magical girlfriend series.

I just got done watching Poject A-ko 1 and 2, and yes I only watched them so I could see the Superman and Wonder Woman cameos.

Brotherhood follows the manga faithfully while the original diverges with its own storyline roughly halfway through, Brotherhood also looks a lot nicer.

Haven't seen Brotherhood yet or read the manga, but another change is that some of the Homunculi are different characters in each series.

Hm, I got the impression that everyone in Brotherhood looked fat compared with the first anime.

Huh, I actually didn't notice the hair. Guess I must have watched a censored version. The science lessons were suspiciously absent.

Anyway, I finally completed Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.

I don't have time for a full review, so I'll make it snappy.

The first half was solid gold; pure mecha Vietnam goodness. Loved just how genuine all the characters felt, and the tight-knit comradeship between them all.

The second half (after the director died) was a bit iffy, with 7 standing out as a little bit crap, but overall I liked it. The MS battles were awesome, the animation was consistently good, the characters were all fully developed and, and the ending was touching.

...The ending to episode 11 that is. The "final" episode, number 12, "Last Resort" was complete shit. Didn't help that the audio quality was terrible on that particular episode for some reason. Safe to say I will be considering Last Resort non-canon.

Overall though, a good OVA, and it has piqued my interest in Gundam.

SERIES VERDICT: It's probably a Gundam.

LAST RESORT VERDICT: It's definitely not a Gundam.

Next stop: Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy!

Steins;Gate sequel film: It's the Votoms OVA syndrome - what we have here is not offensively bad by any means, but just utterly pointless. The extra episode where Okarin gets molested by TSA is a far superior epilogue to the series, IMO.

Lupin III: From Russia With Love: a very slightly better than average 1990s low-budget Lupin special, largely elevated by its memorably nutty villain. There's a single scene of mockery directed at America over the Gulf War (Somebody was really butthurt over that war. Dezaki?), but this time it's not the backbone of the film, thank god. Things I learned:
- Lupin still can't visit New York without causing hideous levels of destruction.
- San Antonio is a tiny-ass desert town.
- Airplanes are magic, and Air Force One is piloted by Isamu Dyson.
- Anime women used to be different.

Finished Clannad and moving on to After Story, but I have a big problem.

SPOILER: Show
I watched the series on youtube and just as I was starting ep. 22, I may have gotten ridiculously spoiled for something later on because of the motherfucking title of one of the top related vids right on the side. Granted, the title didn't include "After Story" so it might be a scene from the VN, but fuck man. I mean, this spoiler doesn't surprise me and I had suspicions of it since early in Clannad, but it still preemptively ruins the second (and from what I've heard, better) series for me if I know what the ending is gonna be. I'll just keep trying to tell my self that it may not have been from After Story. It'll still probably affect my enthusiasm for continuing my binge watch though, unfortunately.

Other than that, I enjoyed the series. Not mind blowing, but very good. A clear set up to a second season.

If you're going to watch videos of dubious legitimacy, you might as well watch them in better quality.

The quality wasn't a problem, they were all HD. But maybe I should just watch these types of things where I won't have to worry about it happening again.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster

We'll see if I can get through all 74 episodes this time around.

Monster is has been on my to watch list since I started watching Anime. No other Anime has been in this weird kind of Limbo for so long. I've seen the first Episode and was utterly bored. Also, I'll admit being a superficial bitch, I just cannot get over the extremely dry and boring art-style. Also, I have the feeling that I kind of know what's going to happen.... I just hope Del Toro will be able to pull off a live-action Monster, so I can avoid trudging through the first Episodes. Oh well...

SILENT SERVICE (1995)
the american merging of the first 2 of 6 episodes, i believe.
ive aways been keen on submarine and naval warfare movies and shows, so sadly i was kinda disappointed with this, mabye i just wasnt in the right mood i had just burnt myself out on drawing in the previous days, mabye i spoiled myself with last resort which has a very similar premise but had a much faster pace.
but it was just very slow moving, and flat out boring sadly at times.
the animation for the ships and action was nice and detailed as i hoped, but the characters where lacking. some where too exaggerated some where too generic and looked too similar to each other.

out of my rating system i give it
6 OF 6 - the absolute
5 OF 6 - amazing / supurb
4 OF 6 - great
3 OF 6 - good
2 OF 6 - ok / meh
1 OF 6 - bad
0 OF 6 - horrible

I finished Cardcaptor Sakura today. It was as good as I expected it to be but I don't have much to say about. I liked all the characters but Tomoyo particularly so, and I like how they handled Toya and Yukito. The two films were wonderful too.

I'm watching Sailor Moon Stars (ending a many months long hiatus of mine of the tv series) and Dennou Coil next.

I don't dig the thorns, but even with those lights, the prior scene is still :nosebleed: Nobunaga's fortunes have been in a downward spiral, so things look to be picking up.

Er, what does B&D stand for?
And, may I ask, was it ever clarified if the Eastern Star contained China (and Korea and Siam, I suppose) in addition to Japan? I remember that India was counted as Western...

Bondage (chains) and domination (flogging). The nudity can also be read as her symbolic vulnerability and shame.

The Eastern Star keeps focusing on Japan only from the maps.
