I now have my copy of the English release of Side A, which is due for release at the start of June!

While Side A seems to be a really nice book to own, I guess the really intriguing stuff will come with Side B. Man, I'm really curious, there might be stuff in it, still unbeknown to English-speaking Geek that could bring whole new revelations upon us!

How'd you get it so early? Do you review books for a living or something?

I think the book dealer that he bought it from (Wordery) is breaking some distribution restrictions or something, I won't complain, lol. I also just purchased it from the link below, and it will arrive in 8-9 days.

Link (provided by pwhodges): https://wordery.com/the-essential-evangelion-chronicle-side-a-weve-inc-9781926778570

EDIT: Looks like they just bumped up in price :um: It was $30 w/Free Shipping when I ordered it yesterday. I guess one has to judge whether it's worth to pay a little extra to get it early, or wait til June 2 for Amazon or other major retailers' release to get the lowest price.

I've seen their price go up twice in the past 24 hours (from the £19-odd I paid to £20 then £21); but when I ordered it Amazon was still advertising the full retail price, though of course they do give you their lowest price if they lower it after you've pre-ordered (but you don't know if that will happen).

Any pieces of information that you thought were unexpected, interesting, etc. as you're reading Side A, pwhodges? I'm most stoked about getting more details about Eva's world :)

Actually, I'm rather pleased how much detail I actually know already; but in any case, I've not yet had the opportunity to sit down for a detailed read. I didn't know that emergency batteries could be installed in the Evas' shoulders.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Chronicle, and I realized yesterday how nice it is that new (in english anyway) things regarding NGE are still being released after twenty years. But man, I just wish they would refer to the Children as Children instead of Child.
I used to work in a factory and I was really happy because I could daydream all day -- I.C.
And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.
and thank you so much for everything!!

Preserving a misunderstanding being crucial, of course.

I sent a request to my local library to stock this, since they have some Eva stuff already.

I received Side A today...from Amazon. I had pre-ordered both A and B and expected them around June, so this was a pleasant surprise.

In case you've never seen scans of these books, yes they're quite good and well worth having if you're an EVA fan. There isn't necessarily much information that's new, or that you wouldn't know by reading through the Evageeks.org Wiki, but the fact that it's all in one or two volumes is quite nice and makes it easy to browse. If you missed out on getting the out-of-print but quite awesome Newtype 100% Evangelion book, this makes up for it quite well.

Also, if you have Evangelion Chronicle Illustrations, you already have all of the character art in these books, and usually in larger images than presented in Side A. Side A however has lots of technical diagrams and scenes that you won't get in Illustrations. I particularly liked the tactical diagrams for the battles, they're made out like a real military history work.

If I have one gripe it's the print, as to squeeze in all of the text they printed a lot of it in very, very small font size (3 or 4). I am of poor eyesight, so I found myself using my cellphone camera to actually read parts of the book.

Unfortunately no. 100% Newtype is only in Japanese. It is however an extremely loaded reference for the original TV series, with many sketches of EVAs, characters, backgrounds, etc. This book was out of print over a decade ago.

100% Newtype was also in German - I had a copy, but a load of the pages were blank because it was misprinted.

It's shown and announced in episode 11, but perhaps easy to miss because everything's so dark.

Most 100% Newtypes can be had for about 1000 yen on Y! Auctions Japan (and, I imagine, used bookstores in Japan, too). So it might be easier to find than you'd think.
