Yep, getting copies early happen all the time. Lack of png especially is why I was puzzled about no given source.

All these years, and they couldn't fix the error that Shinji's the "3rd"?! I know he turned into Ayanami in that later Eva-01 entering Lilith scene but...

Mandatory note about the OP/ED because no doubt some people still don't know:

OP/ED animation is first shot cleanly on 35mm film. That is subsequently reshot onto 16mm with the credit text added for each individual episode.

During the remastering however they use the 35mm clean OP and add the text digitally, thus the OP/ED always look better on 16mm anime than actual episode footage.

It's copy pasta from a military magazines. The top page talks about the French aircraft carrier Clemenceau, the Vought F-8E Crusader and Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard.

Keep in mind, this is stuff that would have never been readable on an analog TV screen and thus not a level of detail where you'd put something actually important to the plot.

My heart aches for a properly restored Ep. 16. It's the episode where Shinji sees his mom for the first time! And all of that glorious blood at the end! In real 1080p! I mean come on!!!

This isn't to say that I don't understand why they couldn't properly restore Ep. 16, nor that I'm not completely elated by everything else I'm seeing so far. My Blu-Reis can't get here sooner!

Not that I bought these darn things, but region coding questions to make sure I didn't miss anything: Since the BD regions for Japan and the States are both A, they'll have no problem playing on PS3/4s, regular BD players, etc, no?

It's been made clear that (following common Japanese practice) the BDs are not region coded. However, the DVDs are.
