It seems that the Evas are equiped with camera lenses only for piloting purposes. Since the hurriedly manufactured MP Evas were never intended to be piloted, they lack many of the characteristic features of piloted Evas, such as lenses and a proper armor, meaning they could probably have eyes...(?)

However, sometimes a giant cetacean-like monster head is just a giant cetacean-like monster head. That said it's worth pointing out that the original drafts of Air did refer to the MP-Eva's attacking Eva-02 as "an image of rape".

One problem I have with viewing the end of the battle scene in this way is, if we are to interpret the MP Eva's dismemberment of Eva-02 as an allegory of rape, then how are we supposed to interpret the battle scenes which occur before this point?

One very quick explanation for the MP-Eva's lack of eyes is that it very quickly dehumanizes/de-emotionalizes them, making them convenient subjects of on-screen dismemberments.

One note worthy thing is that the Evas are capable for more recognizably human carnal behavior than Angels. The military battle prior to that is simply meant to be interpreted as such: a military operation.

But any time Unit 01 goes into berserker mode she exhibits various forms human/primal carnality, mostly eating things or breaking bones off the opponent and bashing them open with them. (If Angels exhibit any form of carnality, it isn’t recognizable to humans. Despite Shamshel being an "image of rape,” it’s in his appearance only. His combat actions merely involve tossing Unit 01 around for a bit. If this is a form of Angelic carnal or primal behavior, it might be more immediately recognizable to other Angels.)

There are instances of sexuality being included amongst all of that carnality occurring on screen, again mostly dealing with Unit 01. But the form of carnality occurring between the Mass Produced Evas and Eva Unit 02 just appears to be more Evas eating things.

I do agree that the lack of eyes help us detach ourselves from the MPAs. It also forces us to look at the carnality the exhibit on Unit 02 itself, rather than those inflicting it.
