Yeah, and did the Japanese production crew realise what Black Hyuga sounded like to a western audience? How flatly Fuyutski delivers his lines? The whole 'hit em again' thing? Were Gainax expliticly asked if it was OK for ADV to start adding lines in? And what about that bloody commentary? Yeah, you don't have to treat the material with reverence, but fucking about and blatant misinformation?

I know she's harshly treated and having to answer for things 10-15 years ago. But someone needs to show her some of these things and go 'Really? You think this is OK? Can you not see why people might criticise it'

That said, the phrasing of the question was inflammatory. It could have been phrased any number of ways like
"Were there any disagreements with Gainax over the dub?'
or
"Did you have to change anything in the dub at Gainax's request?"

That's a good point. I mean, I think her touchiness is justified, but you're right to note that she could have defused the criricism long ago if she'd tried a different approach to dealing with it.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I didn't realize the extent of some of the negativity Amanda Winn Lee had received in the past.

I still think can't quite agree with how she responds to criticisms, but why she does so in that way makes more sense to me.

To give you some sort of context here, basically during that period AWL was completely off the rails. She was somewhat.....notorious...at conventions I'm led to believe. She's calmed down considerably in more recent times.

I think this more so pertains to people who feel the need to bitch out those like Amanda Winn Lee and other creators/dubbing people etc. over what they perceive to be a flaw in whatever it was they did.

In this thread? Not really. Questioning her past actions maybe, but not mocking.

I linked that video as evidence that she was and has been...something of a loose cannon. Compared at least to others involved in the Eva Dub. Im sure Spike and Tiff get their fair share of fanboy rantings laid at their door but you dont see them acting...well, like that *points up*.

And the whole 'I get $50 an hour and no residuals' thing sticks in my craw. Yeah OK VA work isnt regular work, isnt well paid and all but other members of the voice cast have fielded that issue better. Its never good to make with the 'woe is me' in a job that most people in anime would give their right arm for.
