Going into back into seiyuu otaku mode for a second, here are some of Maaya's roles for reference.

I kind of figured that too. I mean, all the first names are in katakana, but the middle name/other family name only shows up with Asuka and middle names aren't typical with Japanese.

Nice to finally have a name and voice to go with the face.

As for the seiyu seems I was half right in my early assumptions. I think I said several months ago that I feel the Seiyu would be someone from a previous GAINAX project. Probably Diebuster..though I put my money on Yukari Fukui (Nia + Nono).

Now listening to the Final Ep of DIEBUSTER. She should be a good addition to the Eva world.

So Mari is also named after an Ayanami-class destroyer huh. Looks like my hopes of her not actually being an Eva pilot are pretty much crushed at this point.

But Maaya as her seiyu is definitely a good choice...

Hmm. the WW2 Makinami was a Yugumo class destroyer... but the name was also used in a later Ayanami class of destroyers, along with the namesake and the Shikinami.

Random note... Wikipedia says destroyers of this class were armed with, among other things, two hedgehog anti-submarine mortars.
