Well damn son I didn't expect this! Watching proper dubs untainted by fuckimation's incompetence will be a fantastic way to rewatch the first three again to pick up on foreshadowing and other details after I've seen 3.0+1.0 subbed for my first watch.

Tiffany Grant! :anno_happy:

Happy they backtracked with some of the main OG ADV cast at least, hope this is a sign of what to expect for the Gkids release dub wise.

Very elated over this announcement.

This is what I'm curious about too. Then again, we won't know until we get an official announcement from GKIDS.

Oh gosh, I really hope the Manga voice for Fuyutski isn’t voicing him again. He was so bad in End of Evangelion. Just seemed so bored and unemotive. The original ADV Fuyutski was sooo good, especially in Birth of NERV episode. I wish they could get him back (although my understanding is they couldn’t find him, literally, when it came time to do End of Evangelion)

Among the new actors, I can totally vouch for Daman Mills. I recently played Ys IX where he as a starring role and he's definitely a standout, very excited to hear his version of Kaworu!

Well this is kind of exciting, I'm pleased that they are letting the originals finish up the series, that's really nice of them. I know a lot of people loathe the original cast but I'm so happy to have them back.

Hopefully maybe we'll get that Blu-ray version of the original series too with them.

Looks like I’ll be sticking to the Japanese version. Regardless of who plays secondary characters, I still cannot stand Spencer or Grant in their roles. I’m not even that fond of Allison Keith, either. I am, however, extremely fond of Megumi Ogata and Kotono Mistuishi.

Weird hybrid dub. I hope GKids doesn’t do that for their TV series release.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad at least you really like the Japanese version. They are ultimately the best, it's just I'm used to the English crew and am glad they got to finish this out (most of them anyways).

In an ideal world, we'd have an alternate dub with the Netflix cast too, but alas.

I'm surprised they got some of the ADV cast back. Someone must've been pulling some strings behind the scenes, be it Kanemitsu or even someone from Khara's PR team who saw what the public reaction to the Netflix release was. Well, not that it matters to me anyway - I don't watch dubbed so the only difference to me is that there's gonna be less people complaining about the dub. That's great.

For better or for worse, the fact that people disappointed that the Netflix actors aren't reprising their roles for the Rebuild redubs seem to be in the minority and that is all I have to say on the legacy that dub will leave behind.

They didn't even bother getting them back for the roles they had to find replacement actors for anyways which is telling in some ways as well.

So they kept Spencer and Grant, but they couldn't get a hold of Palencia or Nishamura?
Why recast Mari of all people?

Eh. I guess it is what it is; At least the scripts will be faithful. I'm sure Grant is happy about this.

Now what I'm wondering is if they'll be able to get a hold of Hannes Maurer, Erich Räuker and Julia Kaufmann at least for the German dub. Or at least please please not involve the Netflix Misato or Netflix Rei.
In my head, Gendo will always sound like Erich Räuker and I'd love to see him do the instrumentality flashback monologue.

Fantastic to see the OG cast members back, but the biggest thing for me with this is Amanda Winn-Lee returning as Rei

Why? It's Rei. It's not exactly a meaty role, acting-wise. I mean, she's an important character, but vocally, not so much. AWL did more with characters like Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats and Momiji Fujimiya from Blue Seed. Heck, she did more with Pen Pen!

Imagine having a Rei preference.

I think the surprise is because people didn't expect AWL would play that role again.

I don't know the story, but it seems AWL had said Evangelion ended with EoE for her.

I'm glad it's the same cast and studio chosen by Netflix. It's horrible when they don't standardize the voices, as happens from time to time here in Brazil. 1.0 and 2.0 have already been dubbed once, but it wasn't with this cast and the quality was bad.
As I once told a friend of mine, the Brazilian voices for Shinji, Rei and Asuka have to be Fábio Lucindo, Priscila Concepcion and Fernanda Bullara respectively. I like this trio of voice actors working together in EVANGELION.

I only strange that in 1.0 the translator was Guilherme Menezes, while in 2.0 and 3.0 it was Mie Ishii.
I'm also happy for Maitê Cunha as Mari, her voice is a bit like Maaya Sakamoto's, I know her work in Steins;Gate.

Also, here is the Evangelion:BR (Evangelion Brasil) article.
“Like a miracle, life starts with the pain / Forever this will be” — “Heroes of Sand” by Angra.
“É porque nós gostamos de você. Obrigada por conversar comigo. Vem, me dá a sua mão para andarmos juntos.” — Rei to Shinji (Portuguese dub).
