Yup. Rejected too-sweary-and-off-script dub, Khara-mandated less potty-mouth (looking at you Ms Grant) and more literally translated dub and new Amazon Prime dub.

This means no piece of Eva media except 3.0+1.0 has been dubbed only once - NGE, Death and EOE have had 2 different dubs, 1.11 and 2.22 will have 2 different dubs also, and 3.33 is going to have 3. Makes me wonder if eventually for whatever reason 3.0+1.0 will see it's own redub too.

Netflix swoops in and pays for one with their own group out of nowhere?! Although that's incredibly unlikely, it'd be kind of cool for those who were introduced to the show with them.

My guess is 3.33's new dub will be pretty similar to the 2nd dub with the exception of some stuff (I'm expecting Mari to call Rei a bitch instead of a jackass when Rei takes Shinji for instance), but I think the new 2.22 dub will lose a lot of Mari's language (How I'm going to miss "JUST FUCKING DIEEEEE"). Not sure how different 1.11's 1st dub was from the sub, but I haven't heard of many differences myself.

@DragonMask I think that would be really surprising if it did happen because it would take quite a bit and would surely require redubbing the previous 3 films too to ensure consistency. I honestly don't think they'd bother.

Man, with the English dub cast finally revealed, my hype for the Rebuilds' release is just through the roof lol!

Kaworu will probably sound a little jarringly different, but then again Kaworu is a character that's seemingly cursed to constantly change voice actors so what's changed lol. Even so, I think Funimation Kaworu was my favorite so far, though NGE Director's Cut ep24 Kaworu was really unique, sounded more like a normal kid which made his otherworldly-ness more unexpected.

Agreed on Mari, I'm going to miss her blatantly foul mouthed portrayal (since imo it fit her being a character meant to "destroy Evangelion" which I seem to recall Anno saying of her back around 1.0 or 2.0). I also just think she put in a great performance, so I hope the new VA can bring just as good of a performance. As I said before, Mari was a little bit inconsistent seeming between 2.0 and 3.0 (not in voice but in behavior, as she went from aloof but battle hungry to just goofy for the most part), so having one actress who has the whole picture before beginning might bring a new perspective on the character.

Yes I think that Netflix will never ever do that, hence why I proposed it as joke haha. It is too bad though, as I'm sure all the NF cast put in their all, but given the unfortunate choice between them and the originals, I'd always choose the originals.

Same, I'm definitely going through the rounds of all the music at this point. Currently cycling through Beautiful World 1.0 and 2.0, then Sakura Nagashi.

Most of all, the prospect of Amanda Winn Lee coming back is a really unexpected but nice surprise. I thought Funi's Rei was very good, but I have a bit more attachment to Amanda's performance, probably because Rebuild (at least up to 3+1) hasn't had a ton of time for Rei to talk to herself like in NGE (introspective scenes throughout the show, talking to Armisael as well as her sections of the TV ending, which by the way explain her change of heart in EoE very well hence me putting them before she turns on Gendo in my edit of EoE+EoTV).

I do see that as NDA speaking, but yes it's probably best for us to calm down and not think of this as a 100% sure thing.

If I had Amazon Prime Japan I'd definitely be looking into this myself.

The Youtube copies of the full credits seems more convincing than that one image anyways, and I'd agree with AWL that it "looks fake". I was thinking that Spike's own statements on the matter I think might have skirted the line since if I recall correctly in one of his newsletter things he commented that he "didn't know the situation with the 3.0+1.0 dub", but he could just as easily not been lying since he was speaking specifically of not knowing what the involvement of everyone else might be.

Edit:
Also, sorry @dzzthink#927520, I forgot to reply to this until now:
View Original Postdzzthink wrote:It's hard to determine how much oversight Khara has in these casting decisions, as this could easily be outsourced to the recording studio.
...
Instead, what the dubbing studio really has to factor in is how much nostalgia bringing the ADV team back for the final film can have and I think they made the appropriate decision to consider the historic impact of Evangelion in its early days rather than the wide appeal of the new Netflix version. Overall, I am very excited to hear these dubs and it will be interesting to see the cast for the final movie at some point as well (after all we still don't know what surprises lurk in this movie).

Yeah it's hard to say. I'm gonna guess Dan Kanemitsu argued in the old fan's favor as I posted about before. I agree they made the right choice, but it is a little too bad a choice had to be made at all, since it alienates some fans (especially since the only reasonable way to access the ADV/Manga Entertainment dubs of the originals is piracy at this point).

Frankly, EvangelionBR is one of the best EVA sites I know. I'm 100% sure this is the real deal.
That whole thing about the English credits being "incomplete" was just the outcome of miscommunication between me and World Dubbing News.

Funnily enough I've just been watching a Mega64 mini-interview with Tiffany Grant from a few days ago. They ask her about 3.0+1.0. Complete poker-face. No clues given. This NDA must be positively draconian.

What did they expect when they tweeted that to her face when she's talked about NDAS and how much they shut you up before? Lol.

Haven't kept up with this thread and there's a zillion new posts about the dubs, can someone TL;DR me?
Are all three of the ones fuckimation ruined getting new dubs, or just 3.0?

This is shaping up to be quite the finale, huh? The finale of multiple stages of Eva, multiple stages of waiting on movies (Rebuild 1.0, 2.0, 3 years for 3.0, 8 years for 3.0+1.0) as well as multiple stages of English releases of (the multiple year 3.0 debacle, 3.0+1.0 in the age of spoilers/leaks, etc).

Do you mind posting a link to that interview? I really loved their work on the Evangelion Live Action Abridged parody (the behind the scenes show that most of them are huge fans as well, except for the guy who played Shinji, amusingly/appropriately enough), and the cameo Tiffany had was such a great moment (I was worried it'd be her last time playing a character in Eva, but it seems not).

Yeah, and as I mentioned above I'd even say that "looks fake to me" is the best out, since it does look fake, and she doesn't have to lie about that.

All Rebuilds being redubbed, with even more of the original ADV cast than Funimation did (the return of Rei and probably Toji for example, as his VA was listed though in "Additional Cast" even if Toji wasn't next to his name). Mari and some other Funi replacements of ADV people (like Ritsuko, Kaji and Kaworu) are being given entirely new VAs.

Everything is new. Spike's back, Tiff's back, Alison's back, AWL IS BACK AS Rei, Swasey back as Gendo. Everyone else is new for this dub including characters that were in the first 3 films. Either only new VAs have recorded their lines for all 4 films or everyone has re-recorded everything - we don't know which as this stage though the latter seems more likely

Dan Kanemitsu is the translator again. Recordings were done at"Dubbing Brothers USA" who seem to specialise in ADR and post-production stuff.

Even though screen grabs of the cast list are out, no-one involved from Amazon themselves downwards is saying anything because everyone is NDA's to the gills.

I'm betting all my chips on them re-recording everything. There's no way Khara would go to the trouble of arranging a new cast and not taking the opportunity to fix issues with the Funi script and thus dub. Although the most egregious error in 2.0 imo would already be fixed by using a different actor (Kaworu at the end saying "I'll show you true happiness" in Funi instead of something like "This time I promise to show you happiness" which sounds a lot less sinister and more in line with his 3.0 portrayal), I really agree with you and think there's no way they won't re-record it all since there are undoubtedly more things they'd want to tweak. I wonder how Spike, Alison, Tiffany and Swasey's performances will be different. I'm hoping they brought their all, and I bet they would, but it can't help to hope.

Edit:
And thanks for posting the interview! I can't check it out yet, since I've fallen behind on my work schedule for today because of all the excitement, but I will definitely check it out, since I'm curious what they asked her.

Oh no, 3.0+1.0 has epic moments that require more than monotone droning. Welp, now the movie's ruined. I can't believe you've done this.

I asked this guy who speaks English and lives in Japan (when 3.0 1.0 came out he gave everyone who wanted them early spoilers and they all were confirmed true in the end) about it and he said that the English cast in the end credits of the Prime version are legit.

We are in for a treat next Friday. This has both made the wait better and also so much more unbearable.

Haha, too true. Thank you for sharing your friend's evidence. Everything's lining up for a cathartic ending.
As I've said before in many posts on this thread/forum, I felt it would have been a shame for at least the big three of Spike, Alison and Tiffany not to return, but it appears we get to have the original Rei too, rounding out the roles of the 4 protagonists which is just so great.

That being said, I feel for those who prefer the Netflix cast (as well as the actual cast members themselves). At least they got the honor of being the most consistent English dub for the original show and movies, since Manga Entertainment partially mangled EoE's dub. I stand by that I think Casey Mongillo's Shinji sounds even closer to Megumi Ogata than Spike so they deserve some real credit for that.

If this is the English cast for 3.0 + 1.0, then I'm excited. Its going to be great watching this movie with the some of the same voice actors that I remember from watching Evangelion when I was younger. I can't wait to check out the redubs of the other Rebuild movies as well.

Friday can't come soon enough! :jiggy:

Well that is exciting. I think I'll still be going subbed at first...but a dub is tempting now.

And it's less than week now!
