I'd like to note that if the uniform scene really turns out to be a vertigo-like moment on Shinji's part I might find it very hard to forgive him.

It won’t be.

Despite the tons of fan service in it, Anno’s body of work is very respective and responsible in regards to the treatment of female characters. The women in his always have a strong sense of sense and if they don’t - Ritsuko/the lead character in Shiki-Jitsu/ - it’s always handled delicately. The heroes of the Rebuild film are almost all women.

Shinji repeating the actions of his father and trying to control/own Rei is not something I see being played in the film. Especially not if they want to go for a happy ending. That little ribbon tie is probably going to be a real effective emotional moment for both of them.

I mean i hope that too, there's a lot of scenarios where you could imagine this happening, & where it could mean a lot of different things.
Giving her clothes could just be, "here, have basic human dignity". (if it's ReiQ) - that is what clothing often represents see those legens where you can turn a werewolf back by giving them clothing.
Or if that's classic Rei, she is time-stranded just like he was & he might be helping her cope with that after his own awful time with that.
Or, something completely different that neither of us has thought of yet cause it happens an hour in.

I guess I'm so used to hearing those sorts of takes I begin to wonder if I haven't gotten it all wrong

Even if I was just a few days ago making this angry post/essay about how everything is wrong about reading EVA as this angry index finger sort of work and how Shinji is not so much a cautionary tale as a mirror of the director's own feelings & experiences & how it actually often comes off as a theme that the Voice of Self Doubt is not the Voice Of Truth

I don't think a vertigo-like scenario would be disrespectful towards female characters. If anything it would point out the disrespect happening inside the story. But ome characters's suffering having collateral damage is nothing new.

I don't think that's what it'll be either, cause the film seems to be taking Shinji in another direction...seemingly.
I guess it could be something that happens toward the start.

I was thinking that the ribbon shot is kind of a parallel/answer to the shot of ReiQ holding Shinji's SDAT and (presumably) offering him her hand to get up, it'd be very sweet of Shinji returns the favor by helping her with the uniform. If it IS ReiQ.

I suspect that considering how the trailers have changed the backgrounds on purpose very often and how Unit n13 and Unit 01 are clearly glowing, that maybe the whole battle is actually set at a diferent time of the day, more like the hand drawn shot of Unit nº13, and just the same way the last shot of Unit 01 has very weird lighting coupled with the glowing parts that have never been seen like that before dusk.

At the very least, Unit 01´s last shot has a high probability of being actually taking place in a darker background.

The "baby Asuka" in the trailer reminded me of Tokyo Godfathers. I don't actually believe it's really Asuka however.

The zero G scene is awesome.

I don't see that shot used at the middle of the movie but almost the ending.
Here you got a happy ending with all your favorite characters alive and a bright future to be explored so it's not a vertigo-moment.
but something completely different for what we know thrice upon a time won't be EoE or something similar but an action movie from beginning to end.

I dunno, every action bit we've seen seems to be from the Impact sequence. Since we're several trailers in I'm starting to think it might be a slower film with only one but long, grand and epic action segment at the finale (not counting Avant1).

Kicking off her shoes on a beach strikes me as a very Mari thing to do?
You know to feel the sand under her feet?

I think that's the first time we've actually seen Mari's bare legs as she's usually wearing stockings or plugsuit. She has nice feet.

But even if the ending shot actually looks similar to this, I doubt we'll the the "older" pilots back in their uniforms.

And being a kid Asuka....yeahh, I bet everything to the baka Shinji number. As I have said, after 30 years beiing an anime geek (I'm almost 40), I do not believe in coincidences. Same goes for the poster, showing Rei & Kaworu separated from the "human" pilots
