Though for what it's worth, one of those 2007/2008 Newtype USA articles said that there was a general meeting before/during 1.0's production where all the films were outlined...but considering what we know that the schedule was getting pushed back, details properly were changed here and there.

SSD: are there any copies of those NTUSA articles? Googling those quotes only leads back to here.

That's because I was quoting the February and March 2007 Newtype articles as shown here: http://forum.evageeks.org/viewtopic.php?p=377312#377312 (there should be a clickable quote/url link that takes you to the full post.) that September/October article was only recently posted the other day (but the post has links to those other articles from February, March, etc 2007).
