[LAEM] Can we accept an American Evangelion?
I'm not sure this was debated before or not (If someone has already made a topic before then point me in the direction of it and close this topic.). Should we let American stuidos direct a EVA movie even after they ruin Japanese franchises like Mario Bros, Godzilla, Final Fantasy, Speed Racer, and most recent one "Dragon Ball" or should let the Japanese direct the movie? I believe a american flim can work if the stuido can hire someone who can take the project serious then someone like Micheal Bay or James Wong, but in my honest opinion that Eva should left off as anime, and most animes don't work as live-action (with very few exceptions).

Toho or Daiei Motion Picture Company can pull out a good Eva live action movie since GMK and Gamera 1995-1999 had a small budget but they work out fine. I think most amercain stuidos would look EVA as just a robot series and would water it down by a lot so people would see it, and know what is going on.

The Evas are way too slim and agile to work as suits. Godzilla 2000 did some pretty impressive speediness with the suitstuffs, but it just wouldn't work with the Evas. Not to mention the shapes of most of the Angels aren't even remotely conducive to having people inside.Guyver Spawn wrote:Suits might work for a Eva movie.

Anything that happened to Final Fantasy, SquareSoft did on its own.

But they could do it with marionettes, like "Team America: World Police." That would be awesome. They could even show Misato and Kaji going at it. And I find the idea of marionette angels just hilarious, especially Shamshel for some reason. Or a marionette Gendo... priceless!

Stop motion animation a la Ray Harryhausen, then? It might be interesting to see where that could lead--instead of having everything look totally fluid, natural and realistic, you'd get this kind of jerky, alive-but-not-quite-alive look to it, like something out of a surreal nightmare. In a way, that's what the EVA battle sequences in the original series are, right?

They can always try suits and CGI mixed which they did for Mighty Joe Young (1998). I always like the idea of a EVA live action TV series instead of a Live Action movie. Toei is always good with live action stuff in Japan and Toei where the distributor of Death & Birth and End of Eva.

The Evas in EoE are practically "suits".

Again, an American Evangelion is NOT the problem. You just need a fan who knows the Japanese version and will be more focused on creating a faithful adaptation than changing things, Americanizing things, or screwing things up. I'd prefer an American version because of its CGI; look at the early episodes of Eva. Look at Rebuild. Eva is supposed to be AMAZING as far as appearance goes. A guy in a suit moving jerkily would look cheap. The Angels would look cheap. Appearance matters.
To mix suits and cg you need very good special effects; moreover i think there are some existing monster suit that could be similar to an eva (since they are humanoid), for example Jet Jaguar, King Caesar and Ultraman....would you like something like that?
Talking about budget limits, an almost all CG movie like Sky Captain could be a solution maybe...even considering the evolution of special effects in recent years.
