I was watching that scene where Misato held a gun to Kaji's head and when he ran the card through the slide Misato pressed the trigger but there was that distinct sound of a gun being fired without any bullets in it.

Has anybody else noticed this? Whats up with that?

Initially, Misato announced her presence by pulling back the hammer of her gun. After Kaji swipes the card and opens the door to the LCL plant, Misato tilts the gun back and it makes a slight metallic click. Tilting the pistol wouldn't make such a noise, and there's no animation to indicate she had toggled the safety or pulled the trigger. Presumably, she had her finger on the trigger just slightly, and when she tilted it back, she relaxed her hand, thus letting the trigger to return to its usually position, making the sound you heard. That's my theory, it certainly wasn't the sound of the trigger being pulled.
