A question about reis I, II, and III
Are they divided only by their outfits? For example, is Rei II only Rei II because she's the plug suit Rei? I've heard people defining them in these terms, so I'm wondering if that's actually the case. I mean, they CAN change their clothes and everything.

Rei I - the young Rei that was killed by Naoko Akagi
Rei II - the Rei we see through the majority of the series up to the point when Unit-0 self-destructs
Rei III - the Rei we see after Unit-0 blows up
Each subsequent number shows that this Rei is a replacement for the previous Rei. It has nothing to do with clothing.
