In regards to Maya being straight:
If Maya saw Ritsuko before she tanged and that is grounds to believe that she is a lesbian, then since Aoba saw an army of naked Reis, does that mean he is a pedarist(sp?)?

That being said... I agree that Maya was gay. What a twist!

Yes, Maya doesn't show an interest in any other woman, but she doesn't show an interest in any men either and the fact she was clearly uncomfortable when Kaji (a man) flirted with her would seem to indicate that she is, indeed, a lesbian.

That's a tough one, I think. Aoba seemed to be taking the end of the world the hardest of all the three 'bridge bunnies', so it's likely that Lilith just figured he was beyond help or maybe he 'cracked' before the Rei figure could morph into Aoba's true love?

However, I would think it's probably more to do with the fact that Aoba's romantic life is never even remotely hinted at in the series and Anno simply didn't know who to put as his 'guide'.

No you see the point is Aoba didn't care about anyone, so instead of seeing someone he loved and willingly giving in, an army of naked Rei's had to confront him as he cowered in fear....frankly I hope Rebuild takes this up a notch by having his spray bullets at the Rei-avatars using his submachine gun, but in vain.

My answer to this mystery though? I love what the Evapedia says about the matter. The idea that he didn't love/trust anyone enough to see anyone "special."

That would be mindless fanservice and would completely devalue any meaning of acceptance that Maya is meant to convey. So, no, I don't think that'd be 'nice' (note: I understand you said that in jest).

Again, this forum has an awful habit of trying far too hard to look "beyond" certain things when a) there's no need to, and b) you won't find anything there. Even if Maya had felt uncomfortable around 10 different men who tried to flirt with her, there'd still be those few that said "just because she wasn't interested those particular 10 men doesn't make her a lesbian".

Let me ask you this: What point is there in showing that Maya is uncomfortable around a man that flirts with her, even though Kaji and Maya share no meaningful relationship in the series?

A pairing of convenience perhaps? To feature her also being stormed by Reis would of been "over-doing it" (not to mention rather contrary to what we know of her as a person), and adding some other character in just for the sake of her trusting them instead would of been rather time-consuming and overall, a wasteful addition to the story. 8)
