I downloaded the app. It seems you will need headphones for the audio or smart glasses for the subtitles. However, I'm not sure if you will be able to use smart glasses provided by the theater.

Hmmm, maybe someone could find a way around the glasses and be able to pull the subtitles from this. I'm assuming that would make the fansub a lot easier. I also know absolutely nothing about what it takes to sub something so I could be mistaken.

My understanding is these are Japanese subtitles only, since the JP Eva blurays even have that as a bonus option. It's maybe possible some of the theatrical screenings would offer English subtitles, but I haven't read that anywhere.

A source close to the matter has told me the original plan was that as the original release was in the time of the Tokyo olympics, due to the large presence of international travellers there at one time, there would of been numerous showings of shin eva with different language subtitles. Sadly not to be

Looks like we won't be needing anything of the like, as the people working on it have run into a brick wall in the shape of missing authentification.

As regrettable as this is, it was very fulfilling to see those idiots on 4chan hyping themselves up as "we can't stop winning" only to realize that their supposed "leak" was someone posting a transcript of EoE.

Looks like user blue on the discord has made the breakthrough with the ideas presented by Velorex, recording the guide for the visually impaired as we speak.
In other words: A detailed, spoken description of everything that happens in the movie. No troll spoilers this time around.

Yeah, but I'm fairly positive that they'll be able to get their hands on that, too. If one is accessible, I don't see why the other shouldn't be
EDIT: Might not be possible after all. In blue's own words, "just download the hello movie app, play the avant thing from youtube and hold your phone to the speaker". Since the subtitle track requires a seperate device, it might run over a different system; unsure about that. (Anyone who has a set of smart glasses is more than welcome to try that method out tho!)

all i am doing is letting the app do what it is supposed to do
yes, once it started it doesn't end
yes it is accurate, because everything said lines up with the first 12 minutes (my Japanese is good enough to understand ritsuko and "eva doing acrobatics")
i got my phone hooked up as a "microphone" to my laptop right now
so we'll end up with a two hour long file of a man explaining what's seen
i did manage to extract the file itself, but no way how to play it on my pc, so this is the only way
to anyone who wants to try this: you have to set the app language to Japanese in its settings for eva to pop up
also, the audio will not play through the phone speakers, only when an "earpiece" is connected, so a phone with a headphone jack would be useful, i just used a regular ass headset
