What now?
i always was curious as to what Asuka and Shinji were gonna do after 3-I
the cant just lay on the beach forever...
just thinking little questions like: what do they eat?...where do they sleep?
i mean there has to be debris...remnants of an old soda machine..and a little cave type thing out of a crumbled building...then again it may have been wiped out by Rei impact...
(theres a funny doujin-(non-hentai even) where Asuka suggests they eat GNR..."Wondermeat")
i just always looked at it and thought to myself that they would realistically, since theyre kids and stuff...starve to death...or die of disease...

That was sure fun! But if there is no Rei in a NGE anime/manga/whatever then it automatically starts from -10 points...
I think that doujin answers your questions pretty well.

For the sake of being a sarcastic ass something.

True, true.

Shinji has been back for awhile, grave markers, rusty nail, and all, so logically he found a town or something nearby to raid for food.

If you watch closely there is a blurriness around GNR's head and arm. We've seen this kind of blur before when ATF's are active. Yui is slowing down GNR's body parts. Didn't it seem slow to anyone? Perhaps Reichu, Shin-seiki, or someone else with Renewal can post a screenie or animated gif of it.

Dunno kinda sounded like grinding rock to me when her head split.

Asuka would probably qualify as a genius, thus would be smart enough to figure out answers for most of this stuff until other people came back. It's not like the whole world got blasted into rubble like Tokyo III did by the Harpies. We even see a small town when GNR's head was falling. There are supplies to find and use.

Not really. That head is many miles across. Taking GNR's height as a round 100 miles (which is of the right order of magnitude), that's 1/40 earth radius, so the energy is 1/40 that of escape so the velocity is square root of that about 1/6, giving a free-fall velocity of about 1 mile/second from standing, and her head about 12 miles across (1/8 height).
The slow, inevitable "Oh, god, there goes the ecosystem!" felt all too right to me.

Easily said but that's impossible because it ends so sharply. It's as if there should be a "To Be Continued" screen.
What would they do afterwards? Well I'd assume argue to start with, get everything out of their system. Then (as i'm a S/A fan) they'd probably become closer after everything is out of their system and would start trying to survive.
It's really hard to say what they'd do to survive because we literally don't see anything except for a few grave markers and those two. It's safe to assume Tokyo-3 has been obliterated so there goes that source of supplies. I'd imagine they'd head towards the next closest town or city in search of supplies.

Never mind the destruction that the JSSDF rained down on what was left after EVA-00 self-destructed. Just remember the big-ass explosion when the GeoFront started to ascend. The whole Hakone region would have been leveled.

So basically Asuka and Shinji are in this big hole in the ground comprised of several other holes in the grounds. In other words, they're buggered?

That was pretty much my take on it, despite Yui's hopeful words. Though there are some implausibly preserved buildings out in the bay.

Your view on EVERYTHING is negative. Do you seriously think Yui would miss such an obvious problem as GNR? She planned everything else out so well that a slip of that magnitude seems unlikely. Then there is that blurriness around GNR. Would it be much of a feat for her to minimize the damage with her nearly cosmic powers?

Well I can understand why his view is slightly negative, no matter what Yui's words were the fact that they return in the middle of nowhere being looked at by a giant head doesn't exactly fill me with hope.
Although I guess she could just make a giant ham appear, ham solves everything.

I just look at what is in the show and tell what I see as the (to coin a phrase) inconvenient truth.
The devastation of the Hakone area for miles (likely tens of miles) around is a given, when the ~8mile across GeoFront is ripped from the Earth, just from the shedding of the overburden. That's before we get into side-effects like the ocean pouring into a hole that's just been ripped into a volcanic region on the edge of the tectonic plate. All this is before Yui's Ascension.
Having only seen the descent of Shekinah in wonderful Mangle-vision, I can't comment on AT-field effects. Even so, we do see impacts at the order of miles per second, and the raising of miles-high splashes that would by themselves cause tsunamis sufficient to devastate at least the whole Pacific Rim, and probably low-lying regions world wide, just like Second Impact.

There's a pretty well-established consensus that Shinji's been there alone for a substantial period of time (grave markers, rust on Misato's cross, etc). The scene doesn't really make any sense at at all if Shinji and Asuka just arrived there. The grave markers tend to imply considerable time has passed by, since Shinji presumably expected to see the others ("...Still, I want to see them again, becuase my feelings then were real..."). He would have gone thru the exruciating process of first wondering where everyone else was, then slowly, as the passing days turned to weeks, or even months(?), reaching the grim conclusion that no-one else was coming back, hence the grave markers. The broken grave marker seems to imply that "Asuka-kicks-down-her-grave" happened shortly before what we see on-screen in 'I need you', which, again, implies that Shinji had been alone up to that point.master0rolando wrote:i dont see Shinji as having been there for any longer than we saw...

I think Shinji has maybe been there for a day at least, the question is how to they return. Do they climb out of the LCL Ocean or do they just materialize Star Trek Style?

If episode 20 is any guide, they wash up on the beach.

Did Asuka kick it down, or did Shinji?
For that matter, did Asuka simply crawl out of the ocean and lie down next to Shinji, or did she wander in from somewhere else?

While I agree that Earth is likely to be changed forever by 3I (just like with 1I and 2I), I disagree with Mr. Tines' view on the grounds that, from a literary perspective, having you go through all of the main character's complexes (the resolution of which being the main point of the narrative), it would be ridiculous to end it with "yeah, now that you've seen Shinji come to terms with himself, he's going to die offscreen out of starvation and disease, effectively making the entirety of the story completely and absolutely pointless and denying whatever message Evangelion was intended to have".
