It was generally a good time, and I'm glad to have participated.
Now that the game is over, can you explain clearly just what the hell was going on with those big ones? I still don't think we understand them completely.

Thanks again, again, Chow + NemZ. You too, Ryjin, our friendly lurker.
It looked like AyrYntake was about to solve the SimBig mystery at one point, but in the end- the workings of the beasts were just a little too random in appearance, I guess.
Plans for the official game!? I'll need to learn Japanese and get friendly with Gainax before that happens... :]
The play-process of the tutorial has given me plenty to think about with regards to data management and distribution, not to mention pacing...
I'll certainly need to improve aspects of the game my end, juggling all the names and numbers really became quite a nightmare as things progressed.
I won't promise I'll be running a new game on the forum (or anywhere else) anytime soon; but nor am I saying I won't ever start a new game...
Regardless, I'll be taking a long break before NGE: Tactics develops any further.

SimBig secrets! You might call this an actual SPOILER: Show
FYI- They had a special "Jump" ability, allowing them to leap 5 spaces in any straight line, however- this damaged their legs, so required them to regenerate before doing it again.
The meat:
The best time to attack them, was When they were Green.
After being attacked, they would turn Blue.
When they turned Blue, any attacks they received would be absorbed into their SADE- or more specifically- into their Strength, Defence and ATF attributes. That's why their SADE was so irratic.
If they turned Blue and were not attack for a complete cycle, they would have turned Green again.
However- once they asborbed over 100 extra points, they turned red.
When red, they stopped moving and shot at the nearest EvaUnit with a particle beam (keeping in mind- that the target had to have been at least one space away). The power of the beam was equal to their total SADE (divided by three, for each phase of battle).
Essentially, they were storing up your attacks and throwing them back at you.
The smart strategy would have been to attack (unison!) only their Green states.
If they attacked you in their blue states, you could have just deliberately botched your battle commands and ordered 3 blocking phases- you would have likely received some damage, but at least they would not have absorbed any attack.
In hindsight, I guess that was a bit much to expect you all to figure out...of course, the option to simply avoid their blue states was always there :]

WOOT!
Anywho, WOW! You sure put a lot of thought into those big ems'! But yeah as impressed s I am I do agree that maybe a little overkill for an enemy character though something like that might work for a one-off boss fight.
Well you take your break man, you've earned it and when you're ready to start up another game give me a holler.

This was incredibly fun and you did an excellent job managing this. You've definitely earned your break and I can't wait for you to get back.
Seize the day.....by the throat....
I hate mcdonalds because their mascot is a creepy spooky clown who looks like he smells funny. Seriously every time I see ronald I think he's secretly some sort of rapist who turns people into hamburgers. Also their food sucks. -Defectron
Our plumbing is messed up and my dad will not call anybody because he's a cheap asshole. Fuck you old man, fucking call someone. Some of us want to stay sanitary. -backseatjesus

some things I suggest looking at:
Some stats have more uses than others
Pushing seems too powerful... maybe (str - (target's def + str)/2)/10 = distance ?
It should be possible to intentionally delay without losing an action
Instead of a giant list of possible orders, why not a simplified (attack action)+(move action)+(minor action) setup in any combination?
Elements seem out of place in eva (and you didn't use them anyway) so why not just ditch?
Mental attacks... no damage to eva, but can kill/incapacitate/stun pilot?
ATF projection options, to help protect others, as a weapon at range, limited flight, etc.
Chance of entering berserk state when incapacitated or suffering severe damage in one round
Ability to regenerate limbs/damage with a successful 'eat' attack (only when berserk)
Pilot-specific skills... leadership, tactics, determination, training... that offer situational bonuses
Edit:
Character stats might work better if they start at 40 each and we get 60 points to spend customizing it, more rounded overall and an easy 100 cap for specialists.
As far as that goes, why the ridiculously big numbers and decimals to start with? Divide everything by 10 and round to whole numbers; simple = good.

I’ve had thoughts here and there about new scenarios/missions, tweaks to the rules and gameplay etc. and with a little work I think a reboot might well be in order…
However, I’m currently suffering from a condition everybody gets at some point in their lives, called: “being too busy”. Lame, but that’s the way it is.
I’ll be sure to speak should the gears start turning again, whenever that might be. Never say never.
Of course, there’s nothing stopping anybody else from taking the reins of the game…

I'd like to see this game go on again in a sleeker form. I'd like for some people to turn up some ideas for this game in how to improve on it.
One idea I had was to introduce an "energy meter" or cool-down system for special abilities. That way, we can manage other types of attacks and be forced to make tactical decisions on when to use special powers or not.

NGE: Tactics v2
I've been having talks with a certain forum member lately, and we've discussed the long overdue revival of NGE: Tactics. We've come up with a few new ideas, hoping to make the game less complicated, easier and quicker to play, as well as make it a bit more... Evangelion.
For the newbies and everybody unfamiliar- NGE: Tactics is a turn-based battle/strategy game made for EGF.
Example shot of a potential game in progress (and introducing the new board layout):
(Art isn't final, but the Hex-layout is a keeper.)
It's Evas vs Angels. Pick an Evangelion unit, navigate the board and wipe out the Angels.
The list of commands you can issue your Eva has been streamlined, and I don't mean dubbed by a now-defunct company. In this game, you can command your Eva to:
MOVE
BATTLE/SHOOT
USE ITEMS
EXPAND AT FIELD
The biggest change to the original game is the utilisation of AT fields.
To battle enemies effectively, you must neutralise their AT fields by expanding your own, but there are limits to their use, and you'll need to combine multiple fields with team mates if you want to win.
Team work will be essential in this new game, so be sure to consider your team-mates' movements as carefully as your own.
=======================
I won't drop an information bomb explaining all the rules and concepts right now, but if there are any questions you would like answered covering the basics, I'll do my best to answer without posting a wall of text, which I sincerely hope to avoid doing this time around.
There are a couple of mechanics and whatnot left to decide on, but a new game should be ready to start maybe January.
We're looking at a potential 12-player game, and with any luck- it shouldn't take a month to clear the first level/mission. I want this to be short and sweet, for my sake and yours.
If anybody is interested in playing this new version of the game, please register your interest here.
