EoE 26' Episode Title meaning?

Hay guys I have a quick question about EoE; specifically, the episode title for 26' "Magokoro kimi ni" (I hope I spelled that right -_-) aka Pure Heart for You.

Now since it seems safe to say "I need you" can more or less imply how all the characters need one another because of the invisible handcuffs Anno placed; but what's the meaning of the Japanese title, and from who's perspective?

Could it be Shinji's? Although he never (iirc, at least) uses the word kimi (informal way of saying "you". I *think* only men use it, but I could be remembering wrong), being the polite boy he is and all and referring to place by their name, who the heck is talking about?

Asuka? Everybody in general? ("Since love is destructive and all, everybody SHOULD just die! Here guys, my heart at its purest! ^_^

Hmmm, i never thought about this. Perhaps its referring to how instrumentality will allow everyone to have a pure heart for the one they love/want to be with/one they did love who got turned into tang and is to sissy to come back.

Magokoro means "unaffected sincerity", "wholeheartedness". I think I've seen the title interpreted as "Yours Sincerely", or something similar, somewhere or other.

"My Pure Heart for You" doesn't sound especially 'natural', even though it's the translation one sees everywhere.

Firstly, "My Pure Heart for You" is too literal translation, without adaptation.
For my opinion it's translate as "I'll Give The True Love for You"
EDIT: I'm checked the official source, this is true!

Here I've tried to understand this situation with the "mistrust" (namely, the use of hiragana instead of kanji)...

Based on different combinations at the same pronunciation and some ingenuity, I concluded:

[ORLY]
25': Rei
26': Offspring from you
[/ORLY]

This is just my ALTERNATIVE interpretation, not more!

I think BB's translation also has it as "Sincerely Yours / I Need You"

It's "Sincerely Yours", because it is the equivalent phrase in Japanese to sign off a letter.

Aha, so this is a discussion-worthy topic.

Sounds pretty generalized to me, not unlike "I NEED YOU". You could say, e.g., that they're both about Shinji-Asuka or something, but that blatantly ignores every other possibility. I would interpret both titles thematically.

I myself always thought it was "Yours Sincerely". I found it as a fitting way for Anno to give the fans a goodbye to Evangelion as a whole.

And note how episode 26' is refereed to as "One More Final:" instead of Episode 26' on the DVD cover and such... (Same with the dvd case with 26. "Finale: Take care of yourself")

I really like how "Take Care Of Yourself" and "I Need You" fit so well together, titles-wise and theme-wise. ^_^

I always thought that the, "Sincerely Yours," was Yui saying goodbye to Shinji. And the, "I Need You," was Shinji asking for someone's[Asuka, Rei, Mistao, or Yui] help.

I think "Sincerely Yours" is the most relevant translation from what I've read here, but I'm in no position to really judge. I'd certainly say it works on a few levels. Anno/fans, instrumentality, to sign off the series, etc.

"Sincerely Yours" gives a sense of closure, and I think Anno definitely would have wanted to go in that direction. It was the end of the series, the End of Evangelion... that particular wording serves both the story's purpose and the purpose of Anno's work itself.

Magokoro o kimi ni- This could be made more simple if you understood it as ‘kimi ni taisuru watashi no sunao no omoi o kimini ni oshieru’ basically ‘I will tell you what is my true feeling towards you’. (this is too long to put it as a film title I guess, and it doesn’t sound poetic enough). Their true feelings? Well, we all know what this is about [i]surely[/]. And I mean both ways also.

I see. And I guess it would be too long, seeing as we don't know whether the "speaker" in this case is male or female. I think the title could apply to all of the characters, as well as Anno himself, since he put all of himself into making Eva. ...Or however that quote of his goes. ^^;

Personally, I think "Sincerely yours" works best as the translated title, due to the implications of signing off the series/in regards to the characters and all that.

Shinji's feelings? They're real, damn it! ;)
