I was a stupid teenager: I didn't like the English classes I had at school.

Re: Official "Hello/Goodbye" Thread!
Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for a few months since I finished the original Eva continuity over the summer. It's given me lots of food for thought both as a piece of media and as a mirror for self-reflection. I've been disappointed by the rebuilds, even considering them on their own terms instead of comparing them to NGE, but they have some good fight porn and I'm excited for 3.0+1.0. I look forward to reaching a point in the future where I've marinated in the fandom long enough to contribute meaningfully to discussion threads.
Other facts about me: nobody is healthy enough to qualify for "best girl" but going forward from the end of NGE I think Asuka has the most potential. Nigouki is my favorite evangelion. I plan/hope to create Evangelion content for other platforms to grow the fandom.
English is my first language but I've always been bored and frustrated by learning foreign languages. I know I ought to but it's a real slog for me.

Welcome!
I started to like languages when I was fascinated by Japanese. But I think was an stupid because the English is more simple than my mother language, the Portuguese, which is considered one of the most difficult in the world, full of grammatical rules that even the natives have difficulties. I am even surprised by so many foreigners who like my language, I have even seen Germans speaking in Portuguese and fascinated with my country (Brazil).

Welcome LordGlazedDonut!
I've always compered the new "Rebuilds" more to the Terminator franchise within terms of fun sci-fi and popular media, but then Eva Q came out and caused me to drastically reconsidered this comparison. They are definitely their own thing, not just within terms of its relation to NGE canon, but just as an exploration of what modern-day kaiju films are capable of being like. I appreciate them greatly on those terms, and the character development stuff surrounding Shinji and Misato is spot on as well. But if you're there to get excited about literally anyone else (I, too, love Asuka and wish there was more of her in the new films), I can see why it's not as fun as NGE was. (It was never quite as compelling as NGE was to begin with anyway.)
BTW, pro-gamer move to post about forum improvements prior to introducing yourself!
Hope to see more of your posts throughout the forum.

I'll take a look at Japanese. Maybe a language that doesn't use the latin alphabet will pique my interest.

It was actually because of the resulting reorganization that I learned this thread existed. I'm glad to have earned the title of pro-gamer though.

Re: Official "Hello/Goodbye" Thread!
It's way more than that, though -- Japanese grammar is almost entirely unlike anything speakers of IndoEuropean languages recognise. Pronouns, inflection for number, the notions of temporal inflections, many of the familiar distinctions between parts of speech, are simply not there; instead politeness and formality is baked into the language.

The basic Grammar is super simple to learn though, it just when it comes to actually using it you need lots and lots of practice before it starts becoming somewhat natural. Same goes for learning of the Kanji. It's less about being smart, just about enduring sitting down and repetition for hours on end to really make it stick inside your head.

Yes, the grammar is simple, and all who Mr. Tines said is true. One exclusivity in Japanese is the particles.

HELLO!
Welcome on board! Merged this post here from it's stand-alone thread - this thread is the right place to introduce yourself! -Derantor
Hello all. I am a long time visitor to EvaGeeks, but i think the pandemic has made me want to dive into forums again! Wanted to just introduce myself! I am happy to be here and see so many people from all over the world share my love of this work of art. It has a special place in my heart and its always heartwarming to know you're not alone in your love of something. Not many people can understand why a 30 year old man would watch and love anime and thats ok because there are plenty of people who do! I look forward to reading and contributing! Thank you for having me!

Re: HELLO!
When 79-year-old Hayao Miyazaki is at work on yet another post-retirement anime and 60-year-old Hideaki Anno is putting the finishing touches on Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 before moving on to Shin Ultraman, how can there be anything wrong with a 30-year-old watching and loving anime?

Hi, I'm Cremino from Italy and longtime lurker. I watched Evangelion for the 1st time in the early 2000's but really got into it almost a decade later.

Welcome, Cremino!
You don't need a apologize about your supposed “bad English”: my English isn't good too, and no one will make fun of you.

Hello all,
I hope that everyone is keeping as well as they can at the moment.
I decided to make an account on this forum tonight --- I am not sure if "tonight" fits best, since it is about 3 AM where I am --- after reading through a couple of old threads on this forum. Having also used the wiki for several months, I thought that it would make sense for me to make an account here, if nothing else so that I can explore my deep love for this series with other people, as given my current state, I am not in a good position socially, let alone to be able to discuss Evangelion at depth with others around me physically.
...having gotten that out of the way, I am not sure what else I should say here. I see that there is another stickied thread on how one first got into Evangelion, and I will probably post there about that topic shortly. But for this first post, I suppose that I first would simply like to say that I hope that I can come to be seen as a meaningful contributor to this board. And, I suppose to preempt any questions about it: I am posting so late in my own timezone because I had stayed up late intending to work on end-of-term papers, but got distracted by, well, Evangelion. Finally, I guess I should establish it from the get-go that I believe that this series has permanently altered aspects of my life and personality, in only some ways for the best, and that the series has burned itself into my being unlike virtually any other media that I have yet consumed. However silly that last sentence might sound or be, I am speaking from my heart. (It is hard enough for me to think it to myself, let alone to type it for all the world to see.)
Take care.

Welcome, welcome! There's quite a few folks on here who have had similar experiences with the show, so you are not alone there by a long stretch pun most definitely intended. I hope you enjoy your stay on the forums, looking forward to your contributions!

Habe quidam Evangelion, quidam! Ceterum censeo tokyotrinem delendam esse. (Your name suggests to me that you're a Latin scholar, if not please disregard the gratuitous paraphrasing of Cato.)
Welcome! Like Blockio said, you'll find quite a few others here who have similar sentiments about the power of the show and its impact on them. Don't be unduly worried about whether or not you'll be a good contributor from the get-go, Evangelion is a show of tremendous depth and it does take a while to get in the groove of understanding it.
