For what it's worth, the Conan movie that was supposed to come out in April 2020 has been officially rescheduled for April 2021. Hate to say it but we might not get 3.0+1.0 before that.

The chances that Eva is just going to go for June 2021 is definitely possible at this point.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

I'll be genuinely surprised if the film doesn't end up going with June 2021.

With the old release date being what it was and in such proximity to the events, I'd guarantee Toho, Toei & Khara have in place & are contracted to some extensive merchandize & marketing deals with the Tokyo Olympics and they intend to stick with that.
The Olympics are a huge deal and Evangelion is a hugely successful merchandize brand that can even appeal to non-otaku in Japan and has a huge market value overseas. It's a once-in-a-lifetime business and synergy opportunity.
All the early merchandize & marketing heavily pushing EVANGELION 2020 to reference the Olympics TOKYO 2020 marketing was an early sign and they can really get a lot of mileage out of the Olympics symbol being 5 colorful Rings and the film series (short of a final film surprise) having 5 colorful & super-marketable/famous/put-em-on-merchandise-and-it-will-sell Eva Pilots.

Until an official date is announced I'm just going to mentally tell myself it's coming out June 2021.

BUT it might not. That's just what I THINK could lead to a full year delay. Nothing if official until announcements are made. And the synopsis for that Conan film does clearly allude to Olympics like festivities being a part of the film so that delaying a full year makes sense as well

fwiw they've already announced all he official Anime mascots for the Olympics.
Weirdly enough they didn't use Pokemon (which is like one of the most well known franchises out of Japan) and went for Yokai Watch instead.

Yeah, but merchandise deals don't have to be mascots. I don't think Eva was the mascot for the horse racing games, yet there was an official tie-in between the two.

Nothing has been announced so don't get excited BUT I was wondering if anyone else thinks/hopes/wishes Khara will provide some kind of Eva surprise next weekend.

It's weird to say this for a four film franchise that has gone on for almost 13 years and is long long past the loosely announced release periods like "2008" or "2013" but Thrice Upon A Time missing the June 27th date is the first time Khara has not made a concrete, plastered all over the posters release date. Anno is very aware and has been pleasantly open about feeling bad making fans wait so so long for the final film and hopefully isn't being too hard on himself about making fans wait a little (or a lot) longer.

Might they release something to appease Eva fans? Might I'm just being foolish but I'm really hoping they'll release the AVANT 1 set piece online in picture perfect quality. They must know it's been all over the internet through various low quality, mid-quality and even decent quality camrips since last year.

Most likely I'm setting myself up for disappointment. But I'm a (foolish) optimist.

Might get another message from Anno, best case scenario a tentative release date but I wouldn't bet on it. I don't think the date will be ignored by the social media team, probably something along the lines of look forward to the eventual release.

The whole Shin Eva experience has taught me to not expect things and enjoy the surprise. This is obvious but I'm pretty bad at it.

For example, getting the poster was exciting and I didn't see it coming. So I will not expect anything in particular. But if I were to theorize/dream a little:

-HD Avant1 is possible and would be awesome.
-Avant2 would make me go insane, though I really think that if they release it at all it would be right before the release of the film as with 3.0. Avant1 is a great action scene, but feels so self contained that it doesn't quite hace the hook the Avant for 3.0 had. Not that this is a bad thing. Watching the whole movie this won't really matter. But I'm just saying.
-A trailer? I still don't know if the reason we didn't get a """proper""" trailer for Shin was that the wanted to wait till the last second or if they were unsure what to do due to COVID. But trailers for most films come out months in advance, so it wouldn't be strange at all to get one regardless of what the release date is. I'm also pretty desperate to see more shots of the film, so I'd gladly take it. Especially since people suspect the previous trailer didn't actually show completely finished shots.

I also gotta say (keep in mind my amateur marketing knowledge) that the casual audience, or even sorta casual yet still actual Eva fans haven't seen anything yet that would make them feel like they need to see the movie. Like I said, Avant1 felt very self-contained, and the first trailer, to a person who has seen 3.0 once or twice years ago, could seem like it was comprised of shots of that movie. The identity of the film isn't completely clear yet. Compare this with the trailers we got for 2.0 and 3.0. Again, all of this is obviously no criticism of the film. This is just how I think it is as far as the "building excitement" side of things goes. Obviously I thought Avant1 and the trailer were delicious. But I'm not casual. I would pay for this movie if they showed nothing.

On the other hand the EoE marketing showed almost nothing of the film and it was a success. But still, it would be very odd and surprising if Shin didn't go heavy on the marketing.

If i'm not mistaken, Toho will open a new cinema July the 3rd, sponsored alongside with Shin Eva.
Maybe we'll get something there (like a new poster or something like that) if nothing happens on the 27th?

The "Evangelion Finally" album has been postponed to october. If I'm understanding correctly, the "special editions" or whatever they are called will still come with a movie ticket.
So I guess this means it's probably a november film at the earliest?

On the one hand I'd be "Yay" ( :asuka_happy: ) for a November release if Japan is safe to do it! (Looks like they might be).

On the other hand I'd be "Nooooo!" ( :asuka_sad: ) because my country refuses to listen and will not have Covid in control to make travel safe.

So, We've got two dates where MAYBE We'll get some Kind of News:
- June 27th : Original release date of the movie, so maybe they'll release something instead;
-July 3th : Toho open a new cinema with Shin Eva as a sponsor. Maybe a new poster with a new release date?

BUT.
There's a third option nobody's taking in consideration:
-July 6th: original date of Operation 0706, that released the AVANT1. Maybe they'll release a new sneak peak of AVANT2?

There's my two cent for a tentative release date
-November 12th: Original release date of 3.0, taking the "coincidence" that previously had with 2.0;
-June 27th,2021: Exactly a year later

I think they're not going to risk and they'll release TUAT next year, bit if they'll release it before (if it's safe, oc), It would be a nice surprise.

Yeah, August the 7th if I'm correct.
There are multiple dates in summer for an announcement. For example July 22th, when the Second Trailer was released, or July 28th, when the first Teaser appeared in 2018. Anno has plenty of dates to Play with .

They just made the three Rebuilds available on pretty much every streaming service in Japan. People seem pretty excited.

I’m unable to see anything and maybe there isn’t but what if there’s a new updated teaser at the end of 3.0?

Nope. I just checked my Telasa and it's the same old Eva 8+2 teaser.

They've similarly streamed the movies before too, but whenever they do it's only for a couple weeks and they never add them to Netflix Japan :sniffle:

JP Eva fans seem to be hoping we'll get some news (about the new release date) tonight Japan time, since today's the 27th there.

Admittedly, my own fingers are crossed because it would be nice to get a rough idea, but I suppose it's wait and see.

At this point, I think they're not going to say anything. They just released the Rebuilds again for a couple of weeks, like a 2nd place reward.
