Not a celebrity per se, but a rather important individual: Antonin Scalia dead at age 79.

In any case, his death means an opportunity for some interested parties.

I'm rather disgusted by all the people I see who are using his death as an excuse to A) make a political statement or B) dance on his grave. I don't agree with the man's politics at all, but it's pretty appalling to see people reacting to his death like its some sort of godsend. It just makes me lose even more faith in politics than I already had.

You do realize just how big a deal this is though, right? I mean, this isn't just "somebody died." It's "one of the most important people in the free world died, and this could result a seismic shift in the whole of the U.S. judiciary, which will have profound effects on U.S. Constitutional law for generations to come." Getting excited about that might be tacky, but there's no getting around the fact that this is a very big deal, and for some it really is a godsend.

I'm not disagreeing that it is a monumental event that alters the scope of the current election cycle, I'm talking about people taking perverse pleasure in the fact that Scalia died whilst joking that they want to desecrate his grave or toasting his death at dinner. That sort of reaction to someone's death just for having different political views than one's self just sort of epitomizes how hostile and strident our politics are becoming and why people like me stuck in the middle just want to crawl under a rock sometimes.

I agree that reacting like that is awfully tacky, yes.

Kevin Randleman -- performer of the Randleplex on Fedor Emelianenko?! (Clicking the link, I see... Yep. They even included the video of it. Fedor won that bout, by the way.)

Having just finished reading through last week's copy of The Economist, I've caught up with the fact that they've caught up with the fact that Marvin Minsky died 4 weeks ago.

Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown, died 5 days ago, he was 97. Perhaps the most prolific test pilot in history. First pilot to take off and land on an aircraft carrier in a jet aircraft and who held the world record for carrier take offs and landings as well, few men live such lives. :salute:

The amount of aircraft this man piloted is quite large.
