Well, it was in the deleted live-action scene of EoE. So he wrote it, casted it, and directed it. He probably doesn't “ship it” (that was just me being facetious, and Anno never mentioned which pairing he preferred) but he did make it happen once, so take that for what you will.

Well, if it's deleted, then it's not canon. Same as Mari's pet tattoos, Werewolf Asuka, Cat!Kaworu, and all those other things that didn't make it in.

I agree with this. Though, I agree with an asterisk. I’m showing someone EoE for the first him in a couple of weeks, starting with Death to recap all of the thematic elements of the show. Before I even recap with Death, however, I’m playing around with the idea of showing him the deleted scene in the context of it being a deleted scene. As much as a deleted scene isn’t canon, EoTV had already explored the concept of an alternate universe. The deleted scene would merely be yet another exploration of the concept of an alternate universe.

But on the other hand, I might not show it to him. I don’t want to take away from the “WTF?” moment of the surviving live-action scenes suddenly appearing in the movie.

And besides, very few “ships” are official canon to begin with anyway. A deleted scene ship is still a ship, despite its non-canonic nature. :tongue:
