View Original PostRosenakahara wrote:^Yeah i sort of lost interest in season 2 after episode 2, partially because even though i made all the right decisions i got the feeling if i didn't look up what to do more people would die than needed, and i really dont want to get spoiled by a guide but i also want the best ending.

Pretty much my reaction, but made a bit worse due to

SPOILER: Show

The fact that a lot of the deaths in Episode 4 happen regardless of the player's choices, and after that point the story began to feel more and more contrived. Perhaps if the deaths had been more spaced out or given a bit more weight they would have had a greater impact, but they just happen and are never mentioned again which really makes them feel cheap (worse is that the climax is caused by Luke and Jane's poorly-written decision to screw, which made no sense whatsoever other than to provide some driving action). Whereas in the previous game you at least got some time to get to know a small group, this season's group changes a lot more and you hardly get any time to bond with characters in the same way as in Season 1.

I also didn't like how they hogtie you into choosing Jane or Kenny in the final episode; I really wanted an ending where you could go with Bonnie, Arvo and Mike but even if you get hit trying to protect him Arvo still decides to shoot you and you're forced to contend with Kenny and Jane (who were honestly my least favourite people in the group by this point). This was made even worse by the fact that they game has a point where it looks like you can go with Mike and Co. but doesn't change events at all, which felt like a bit of an asspull to me. If it's gonna happen then why the fuck bother giving the illusion of free choice? Maybe there was meant to be some deep message there but honestly in the least quarter of the game I could not give a shit.

A friend of mine put it to me quite well recently: 'These games claim the story is shaped by how you play, but there's really only 2-4 ways to go'.

Mine personally? Wolfenstein: The New Order. Mediocre shooter I had fun with and actually made an effort to finish.

I got it last week since it dropped to $40 (and I even got lucky and received the first print edition with the set of cards), what a good game. I am a huge persona fan but not really a fighting guy, and even though I suck at the game I must admit how well built it is. Visually beautiful, great soundtrack, tight and responsive controls, fun story (for a fighting game) and overall very high quality product. Also, the Japanese title wins, dammit why couldn't everyone else be so cool and keep that title for the interantional release

My game of the year?

Alien Isolation.

it's A horror game that is actually scary, without relying on things like excessive Gore, or Horror Cliches and it may have singlehandedly saved the Alien franchise from fading into irrelevance. All that in one convenient package? I'm sold.

It's on sale on Steam and I was totally gonna hold off but I've yet to hear anything truly negative about it and I've been hankering for a good horror experience.

Hmmm.

EDIT: Bought it.

Screw it gonna have to put shantae risky's revenge on there instead since nintendo are being butts and wont release until australia (the country that is currently tearing down game stores) gives the ok.

Game is an amazingly fun platformer that has a few metroidvania elements and the music is freaking superb.
Sprite work is really damn smooth which is a wayforward standard by this point but i just love how good everything looks, and this was a dsi game to begin with.
Overall the story is kinda meh and the dialogue while it can be good at times its just ok at others, game works best when it realizes its a game and breaks the 4th wall which seems much more prominent in the sequel so it seems wayforward realized what the series was good at.

Only times where the game flops a little is when it tries to make you do intricate platforming with the monkey bullet, the thing freaking sucks, also some people might be turned off by the wait times in transformations so even though it doesn't bother me i will have to subtract points for that.
The new magic mode is a nice little challenge in the directors cut (steam release which is the one im talking about) plus i wont lie, shantae looks damn good in the magic dancers dress.

Overall great game, little too short but it was a 10 pounds dsi game so i cant really complain, buy it.

It's on my wishlist awaiting the next sale, entirely because of your long-term efforts to promote it. The final straw was the dancing Shantae avatar.

Mine is Mario Kart 8 because I literally haven't played any other games that were released this year.

2014's been a pretty moot year in terms of gaming, imo...

...Dark Souls 2, maybe? It wasn't quite as good as the original, but was still fun to play.

Anyone have a list of what came out this year? I didn't end up buying much and revisited most of my backlog.

Personally for me this wasn't a very good for gaming but anyway.

1. Dark Souls 2
2. Assassins Creed Unity (could have been first if Ubi haden't shot themselves on foot)
3. Ni No Kuni

Well, if he has played it this year, I think it's ok to use it for a personal list.
I've played only two titles this year. GTA V and Catherine. Both were great.

It's been on my "to pick up" list for too long, at this point I don't even want to commit to a jrpg since 2015 will have FF Type-0, P5, maybe FF15, Witcher 3, Devil Survivor 2 BR, and my attempt to beat tales of symphonia chronicles.....the year of jrpg's is upon us!
