Misato's feelings towards Shinji at the start of Q

Put your hand over Misato's mouth and concentrate on her eyes after she says "You'll do nothing", looking at Shinji's eyes as he begins to cry for Kaworu, the top and bottom middle around the iris begin to reach for each other, same as Misato's.

3.0 sure makes me wish I could give hugs to the cast, same with NGE's Bitter End Arc and parts of EoE.

But no hugs for Kiel and Seele. Fuck 'em.

If she does 'hate' him its more of a defense mechanism than genuine hate. . . She supposedly hated her father, and then he saved her life, so she's confused about how to feel about him. She thought she cared about Shinj, then he blew up half the planet. . . so she confused about how to feel about him.

. . . It's all Gendo's fault. . . just keep telling yourself that. . .

Not necessarily all Gendo's fault, Shinji is a puppet who quite frankly should be able to see his strings by now.

By the end of 3.0 sure, before that it was near impossible, since until Kaworu's infodump Shinji didn't even know that Gendo was a bad guy (an asshole sure, but not an enemy of mankind), and once he discovered it his only option was to pilot EVA-13 to try to thwart his plans, but Gendo was already many steps ahead.

I'm still amazed how nobody treats Stillborn like the troll he is.

In my opinion Misato is not entirely sure how to feel. On the one hand it's been 14 years in which everything changed that drastically, she might have a hard time to remember him correctly. Then there's the constant pressure of leading a ship that's constantly being attached by some mighty monsters while there is a 14 year old on board that does not listen to a thing anyone says. I wouldn't say she hates him, but she definitely does not feel too poka-poka about it, since he seems to be the ignitor of impending apocalypses. Then again, he has been almost her foster-son. I think the word which best describes her feelings is "conflicted".

Conflicted is a good word to use, I prefer hesitant myself.

Hesitant, huh? But towards whom or what? She seems pretty determined to fight off the Nemesis-series and confine Shinji where he can do no harm to me. She doesn't seem to hesitate one bit, she just does what she assumes might be the best. Innerly she's very torn if turning off all emotion and treating him not like a human being is the right way to go about this situation. Yet she does not hesitate. But she certainly seems conflicted.

I didn't get that at all the first two or so watches of the movie, but once I started looking at the little cues the superb animation gives off, I felt like I grasped a better understanding of Misato.
