Also, Aya Hirano has recorded narration for that video. Thinking about it, the whole 707 pictures thing is making me think of July 7th, which fans of the series know is a very important date in the story. Makes me wonder if something is going to be announced when that date rolls around this summer? :chinscratch: (Of course, I could be over thinking things, but it's really easy to do for a series Like Haruhi)

If this is true, is Haruhi's Japanese Seiyu returning, or are they recruiting a new actress? I know its been Four years, but Otaku and Mass Media aren't exactly known for letting go of a grudge.

They've gotten over it by now I think. Hirano has released some more songs which have been very well received) and done plenty of other voice roles. Also, one must remember that the "MUH PURE WAIFU" Otaku are a very vocal minority given voice through Japanese equivalents of the Sun- the vast majority of Japanese, fans or otherwise, either don't give a flying fart about it ("Bloody celebrity dreck, mutter mutter...") or are otherwise indifferent/sympathetic/supportive of her ("So what if she banged a few guys? She's a talented woman"/"Aww, poor girl, I hope she gets past this soon."). It also doesn't help that at the time her agency was actively screwing her over (not literally) and combined with a throat infection and mounting stress she was having a genuinely horrible time.

I hope she's doing OK anyway. I like her lots; she's a very talented actress and she sounds like a right laugh- they type you'd have a beer or 2 with and chat about stuff. Plus she's hot as it gets.

Yes, and an announcement that it's going to air in the upcoming fall or winter anime season is the most likely possibility. Still, there's a part of me that hopes for something else such as a new novel.

Okay could someone please explain this show's greatness to me? I'm sorry, but find nothing about it interesting, indeed it seems to have the utmost blandness. I'm not inclined to say it's bad, but I see absolutely nothing good about it either. Clearly there must be something that I'm missing, but that notion makes no sense in itself!

To a large extent Haruhi herself exists only to be a foil to Kyon - who is one of those great characters that even gets the occasional first place in lists. But if you don't get Kyon, well, I guess I'm just a little sorry for you. Whether the whole world exists as a fantasy in Kyon's mind (not Haruhi's) I leave you to decide.

^Kyon is just an ordinary person complaining and commenting on everyday shit that we all experienced in our lives. He comments on the flawed school system, overabundance of public stupidity and teen behavior that we all found annoying at least once in our lives etc..

Many people like his character, and hence like the show. Ultimately it comes down to hearing a character express the same dissatisfaction on everyday matter as you--and you immediately think:

"oh snap!! so it's not just me, other people get annoyed by this shit too!!"

A lot of people can relate and appreciate it, that's all. Of course not everyone understands his puns and sense of humor and as a result don't like the show (cause lets be serious, the plot isn't what makes Haruhi worth while, it's the characters)

Which is an odd complaint about a show which throws a bucketload of stuff at the wall in the hope that at least some of it will stick.

It was one of the first shows that I picked up simply because /a/ seemed to be all over it, and a major calibration point for the assertion that "/a/ never talks about good anime".

So you say that one of the most primary reasons for the show's success is that... the main character isn't an idiot?
I'm going to need quite a bit more to go on than that, I fear.

Basically Kyon plays the straight man to Haruhi and Co's antics.

Considering the success of Anime's where the main male Character is kindve an idiot I'd say its a refreshing change of pace.

^Most main characters in anime are whiny, naive twats. Others are emotionless tools -- I think my goldfish has more character than them... So yes, a non-retarded protagonist that is actually enjoyable to watch is quite a rarity these days -o-;

But just because everything else is so bad doesn't make the exception from the rule instantly good.

I found Haruhi to be entertaining, and since I love style over substance, I also loved the little twists (jumbled airing of Episodes, endless8), but I never really could start caring for it. I can see what's to love there though. This is one of the Animes which not only justifies the archetypes of the show, but also uses them in interesting ways.

Still, I would never rewatch this series... The movie is a whole other affair, though.

Wouldn't it be possibly teasing that Nagato moe show (based on that moe manga) since it was recently green-lit?

You answered your own question  Since the show was green-lit they should have no problem releasing a PV for it since people know it's happening. This on the other hand, assuming it is a tease for a new anime project, is more applicable to something unannounced that people are not expecting. It just seems like too much work for something trivial imho

My understanding of the Haruhi-hunting videos was they were a promo for the new Haruhi pachinko game, and not a third season of the anime. This, of course, makes me very sad.
Awesomely Shitty

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity
