I think I would actually prefer the Kristen Stewart monstrosity.

Repent! Repent! The end of serious film production is nigh!

In all seriousness, at least Stewart will be good at playing Julia after she's been thrown through the torture of Miniluv and purged of every good emotion and rebellious impulse.

The way she refers to it as a 'love story' makes me wonder if they're going to make it into a version of Twilight set in a socialist England. Betcha they're also going to cast some reasonably attractive man as Winston instead of the plain, ordinary man with the varicose ulcer the book described.

Because I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

This is worse than the Oldboy remake. This is literary rape. What will kids think of the original works ?

Nothing, if the trend continues. At no point did any of the schools I attended ever actually require me to read 1984, despite it long being considered an educational staple. We sure as heck read Pride and Prejudice, though. Three f***ing times...

That's quite depressing to hear. Especially because 1984 is now, because of all the NSA-Shit hitting the fan, more accurate than anyone could believe.

Why does everyone want James Franco in everything? I love a lot of his comedic roles, but having him star in a movie based on 1984 would be as bad of an idea as having him star in a movie adaptation of As I Lay Dying.

It's almost as though they want to make a real-life Springtime for Hitler here.

Here's the good news:

It doesn't actually have "1984" or any references to 1984 in the title, and the plot has nothing to do with the plot of 1984 either. If we're very lucky, the main characters won't even be named Winston and Julia, and we'll be able to safely say that it really has nothing to do with Orwell's work at all.

... What ? :cringe: So this movie has nothing to do with 1984, isn't named after it and doesn't even share names with Orwell's book ? Why the hell was it called 1984 in the first place, does this make no sense or am I losing my mind ?

It's called "Equals", because... uh.... some sparkly vampires are more equal than others? I have no fucking idea, ask the crackheads in Hollywood.

Some executive thought naming it 1984 would make people think it's a period piece about New York at the beginning of the Me Generation era. Or something like that.
