My favorites so far are

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Sailor Moon was my introduction to anime it was the first series that I sat down and took the time to watch and it's special to me and I'm looking forward to seeing the new anime when it comes out.

Evangelion I never thought I'd end up watching this and loving it as much as I did, but I can relate to Shinji and Asuka especially so it hold a special spot in my heart too.

Well, I'm waiting on Rebuild until Final is released.

I'm interested in Precure, Wedding Peach, Cutie Honey, and Inuyasha. But, I'm open to recommendations.

Despite the series being pretty generic and the second season of index being quite bad I'd say that the Toaru (or maybe it's better to call it raildex) series has recently become one of my favorite anime franchises. Dunno what it is but I just love the world and I really like most of the characters in the series.

Serial Experiments: Lain is getting more love than I often see, although I'm also suprised RahXephon isn't mentioned more. .hack//sign, too, oddly low numbers there, but I love it. As far as movies go, definitely Metropolis, Akira, and Princess Mononoke.

TV Series/OVAs:

1: Gunbuster (As far as I'm concerned, the greatest work of fiction ever. Also, the OP is pure 80s awesomeness- I don't care if she took coke, Noriko Sakai is a brilliant singer.)
2: The Big O (40s spy drama mecha action- what could be better?)
3: Kill la Kill (Stripperiffic Sentitent Super Strength Sailor Suit. Enough said.)
4: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Origin of Numbah Wun Waifu, Yoko Littner. Also absolutely filled with badassery.)
5: Cardcaptor Sakura (Haven't finished it yet. Need to. SO ADORABLE.)

Movies:

1: Akira (My favourite movie of all time, bar none.)
2: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (The movie that got me into anime.)
3: My Neighbor Totoro (Everything is wonderful in this movie. Everything. Also, stars the creator of EarthBound as the dad.)
Here lies Squigsquasher.

I find it bizarre how people compare or anyway put together series and movies, so I'll personally stick to series

- Cowboy Bebop (absolute freaking bloody masterpiece under any conceivable standpoint, pretty much same tier as NGE for me)
- Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd gig (I find it visually better than the first one and there's less of a divide between main arch and filler episodes, although I really liked the Laughing Man and Salinger references in the first season. All in all, a tier below NGE anyway)

Ultimately, NGE remains the the pinnacle for me. I remember watching other anime series after that, avidly, and being rather disappointed with stuff such as Escaflowne, Nadesico etc...

Next to Eva?

Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star
Rurouni Kenshin
Durarara
Spice And Wolf
Samurai Champloo
FLCL
Nadia

Evangelion and Bebop divide the world between them.
