Well, Takeo knows him which probably implies Takeo himself is some sort of military guy, but that's it.

Either he's dead and that's the reason why Misato became this... person she is now, or we'll see him in "Final" in that "place of hope".

But if he's alive, it's hard to think that he wouldn't be affilated with WILLE somehow, maybe he's the keeper of their base, or he's the leader of a human colony.

Him being dead seems like the most likely option, though.
Mostly because it explains Misato.

I mean, can you see her becoming corrupted and cold if she was in happy relationship with her highshool sweatheart? Because they seemed as good as back together by the time Bardiel rolled around, so something must have... stopped them.
He seemed very much alive during TI itself, but maybe the struggles afterwards killed him. Maybe he was killed in the events surrounding the defection of Misato & co from NERV.

I only know the kana but I can tell you that the last word on the label was Touji so I'm guessing the Kanji at the start said Suzuhara.

I'm not too sure about Toji being dead, Sakura was pretty kind to Shinji. If Toji was dead I'd expect her to be colder towards him, but then again she could just be a super loving, kind person. However, I think Toji being alive is more likely.

Hmm...the preview of Final tells that Shinji find a place where he finds ''hope''maybe in that place he finds Toji and others...

Well, they're a made up species, but you could try [google]penguin life expectancy[/google] for some real world data (20 years in the wild seems to be a typical value).

The morning after Shinji and Kaworu are done star-gazing, Shinji is preparing for the day when his new shirt comes in. He puts it on while wondering, "I wonder if it's still noticeable..." and sees a stitching (name tag?) inside his shirt. After reading it, his pupils dilate (his new trademark). Anyone know what the shirt said? I'm guessing it might have been an older classmate's shirt...?
