Seems they are saying them same thing (don't know the moonspeak) are they talking down to him, or was it something about Rei? Seems like a powerful little scene though.

Looks pretty, sounds pretty, definitely even more excited, though is it wrong I really want Shinji and Unit-01 to just rip the Wunder to pieces in Final?

Since i don't speak or understand Japanese whatsoever the thing that i could make out of that was that maybe they were telling him not to pilot eva anymore or something among those lines...
It's too late to pry away.

While Shinji starts to pull moves advanced enough to be pretty bullshitt-y towards the end it thankfully isn't completely out of character given his musicality in original show and pretty good intuition. He mostly used two fingers anyway so the "lol what" is mostly limited to hitting the right notes all the time but hey, it works.

The scene itself is beautiful and wonderfully directed of course. It's just that I know what Ornette ment with his "Shinji learned to play piano ridiculously fast"

LOL yeah I noticed that too.
The first part was really cute where he just poked some accompanying notes and it happened to match Kaworu's melody, then BAM he's suddenly playing with two hands with fluid appegios hahaha!!!

As a piano teacher, I'm going... WHY CAN'T EVERYONE BE Shinji?

But as someone who just wanted to enjoy that scene, I found it really lovely. There is just something about bonding through making music that touches my heart in a unique way.

Hm. I'm ashamed to say that some of my first thoughts were "Sumire (the black WILLE chick) is hot"
Maybe it's the way her outfit accentuates her shapely boobage, or that deep voice, but Yum! If Xard has already claimed Midori,
Then new men are less eye-candy-ish (Then again, that's what Kaworu's for) but the beardy one seems like memorable ham material.

It's also cool how freakin' surreal the animation gets, like, with those jellyfish things and the shattering of that AT-Field. Some said it looks "unifinished", but isn't it supposed to look reality-defying?

Aside from that, Ogata's voice acting. Just the Rei scene, the many levels of desperation there, like, he can't quite believe it and whatever residues of his heart survived the rest of the day shatter for good and the shards tumble down and embed themselves into the inside of his feet.
(The way Rei is rendered in the shadows in also artistic/cool, so many details in that scene, it's so bloody depressing)

Or look, the freakout scene from the trailer. Damn powerful, how he first comments on his SDAT-player "It's not working anymore..." and then abruptly realizes that this pretty much applies to the whole rest of his life, the sheer force with which it hits him, like he just "stops" for a minute before he can even curl into a ball.
I believe the word we're looking for is 'Ouch'.

Piano scene = some vintage Kaworu there. Just his smiles.

Also, Gendo. He looks to be in even more disrepair than usual, his hair is messier, his face is more gaunt and his eyes are even more hidden, if they even exist at all. But despite all this, he doesn't really look anywhere near 62. (Maybe because of angelic augmentation of some sort?)

Also, Tachiki-san is doing his voice notably different, I can't quite name what is different, but there's some deviation from the classic "Gendo"-tone. Deeper, maybe?

1 track from Nadia in the trailer, now 2 tracks in this part.
At this point, I'm not sure we can say it's a reference (or laziness) of Shiro Sagisu.

If this ends with the AAA-Wunder surfing a giant asteroid down into the GeoFront i'm going to lose it.

My guess is both. But I still like it.

While old-EVA was getting worse animation-wise, NME is getting more beautiful with every installment. It's interesting, don't you think?

About the piano scene, I do believe it’s supposed to be a metaphore. Kaworu often uses their joint play as a “reminder” of their synchronization throughout the movie, it’s a symbol of their friendship. So Shinji suddenly being able to play along so well (*after some initial bumps and awkwardness) should be interpreted as him taking very quickly to Kaworu (*after adjusting to his complete obliviousness of personal space haha).

“Music is so much fun - we sure are great together,” at which Shinji’s taken aback and smiles a little.

Oh and the flashback scene -

Misato: "Don't do anything (anymore)."
Asuka: "It's got nothing to do with you."
Sakura: "Do anything but board the EVA, please!"

They're all key lines in this movie.

It has sounded to me like in all three movies he's been voicing Gendo a little differently from the TV series.

I didn't notice such differences in 2.0 - 1.0 was notable by the fact that well, in the original, he spent most of episode 01 looking for the "right" iconic tone, while he could obviously do it right away for teh rebuilds.
but maybe it's just me.

What were the last two lines that flashed? Gendo's and ReiQ's lines? Have to say it throws a very interesting new dynamic to one of the core Shinji problems. The "I don't want to pilot Eva/Why do I pilot Eva?" First time everyone is telling him not to. Something for another thread though.

Dat Piano scene!!! Feel the same way, was like "whoa Shinji got good really fast" but the fact he has been shown to be a pretty accomplished musician previously, and the scene just looks awesome that I'll let it slide he learned piano skills in moments that took my many many years.

Oh sorry, forgot about those -

Misato: "Don't do anything (anymore)."
Asuka: "It's got nothing to do with you."
Sakura: "Anything but boarding the EVA, please!"
Gendo: "Pilot the EVA."
ReiQ: "I don't know."

Shinji's overloading, because everyone keeps telling him contradicting things. Rei's "I don't know," was her answer in their previous conversation (as Shinji was simultaneously trying to fill in the awkward silence and attempt to get a semblance of information).

Shinji: "A lot's changed... in the NERV HQ. Why is Misato-san not fighting against Angels but the NERV HQ? What on Earth is father trying to do here? What happened to everyone? Hey, Ayanami, do you have any idea?"
ReiQ: "I don't know."
Shinji: "I see... yeah, that's right. Ayanami, when did you return from Unit01?"
ReiQ: "..."
Shinji: "There aren't even rooms here / This doesn't look like a room... I'd say 'that's just like Ayanami,' but there's not even a school - what do you do here?"
ReiQ: "I wait for orders."
Shinji: "There aren't even books here! Don't you read books?"
ReiQ: "Books? Would 'Ayanami Rei' do that?"
Shinji: "Yeah, you read a lot, don't you? There were lots of books in your room and stuff."
ReiQ: "Is that so."
Shinji: [didn't catch everything, but probably something about him helping her look for some Eva-related {?} books and that she "likes them, right?"]
ReiQ: " 'Like'? "
Shinji: "Yeah, well, at least I think so."
ReiQ: "What is 'like'?"
End of scene.

Something about Rei liking and reading English books.

Piano scene was awesome, but the star wars flying empire ship was just too ridiculous to look at. [Anno better make it go boom before it ruins the series for me]

This. And I'm not looking forward to the ugly, awful looking Franken-Eva unit previewed for 4.0. They sure are making terrible aesthetic design choices.
