Not true. You can find really hentai anime in Japan, but they are all straight-to-video release. And Xard was right -- the budget would be much smaller, and there is no good way to market it because the channel would be much narrower. Sales figures for full hentai (sexually explicit) anime are not available but the general guess is it is much smaller than those that were syndicated and broadcast. With smaller budget it would also mean that the animation and production quality would be lower as well.

A couple things. First of all, I'm watching the Blu-Ray releases at full 1080p with FLAC audio. Needless to say, with my surround sound, I'm worried my head will explode while watching this, it is that awesome.

I recently read the manga and I was surprised to find that there was just about no fan service in it. This shocked me compared to the show. Now I'm not complaining about the fan service in the show. It adds a kind of relief between the constant death and killing. I was just shocked the difference between the two.

Last thing, I found a page that shows all of the guns in show. Pretty freaking awesome. I was in the market to by a new gun myself so this has helped me to decide that I want the Springfield Super Match M1A. I'm not sure I'll get the Super Match because they're a lot more than the standard, but we'll see....

Loved High school of the dead, reminded me of Zombieland and Shaun of the daed fairly frequently.

My one complaint was fanservice, there was far to much of it.
Series like Rosario + Vampires live on fanservice, HSotD took it to new, and undesirable, Hights.
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

And then we come to the merchandising... facepalm- Mr. Tines

I woulnt go for it, you're paying for a lot of things that you wont really notice when you shoot (unless you do competitions but I think it's safe to say that's not a factor) A standard M1A can get you the same looks without making the same dent in your wallet. Now an Aimpoint will run you somewhere around 400 dollars. Trijicon ACOG = about 1000. If you plan on getting into shooting as a hobby I would not recommend something like this just yet. It would be easier on the wallet (and your shoulder) if you started off with something smaller. Learn the basics at a cheaper price. If you want it because you saw it in the anime you're going to be spending quite a bit of money.

In short I recommend starting with something smaller (also cheaper)

Also OVA was just pure fanservice, you don't get much plot wise.
It was actually disappointing.

The complete series (minus OVA (no huge loss there)) will be available in Blighty by the end of August, something to help the kids get back to school I suppose?

The BBFC website lists under consumer advice:

BBFC wrote:Contains strong language, sex references, sexual threat and bloody violence

LOL

Despite this, the DVD appears to be carrying a 15 certificate... not an 18. I smell censorship.

The site does say that no cuts were made- which would suggest that no changes were made to the US release it was copied from, but I'm in doubt.

Okay, so which BritGeek here is prepared to buy the R2 release and check it for censorship? Or does it have to be me?
Does the R1 release have any censorship of its own?

This was a series I would not even watch for free.

@TDSA
I would have thought that this was a series with too much fanservice for your tastes.

It is and normally would be. However, I want to see if I can be as cultured as the local /a/nons here since apparently watching Ghibli movies didn't do it. :biii:

Choose one.

Enjoy your supersonic gainaxing.

Now, if you'd gone with Xard's suggestion in the other thread of Virgin Pomegranate Monster, then that would have been classy.

I'm watching this series right now. It's fucking terrible, but in a good way.

So it's a gritty reboot of Peter Pan vs. a titty reboot of Dawn of the Dead.

Okay, after seeing the first two eps I can so far make a list of pros and cons.

Pros:
-Good action
-Fast paced
-Nicely set up
-Well done art style
-That guy with the nail gun was kind of cool

Cons:
-Annoying music
-Fan service (this was obvious, although with the exception of that blonde nurse I can tolerate it so far)
-"I know everything, I'm a genius!"

Well, I'm now four episodes in, still not seeing these mythical "constant nosebleeds" or constant main male character arousal I heard about on the first page (although the teacher is kind of creepy). Is it just me or was half of ep 4 basically a clip show? Well at least the next ep looks more actiony.

Bought the R2 DVD release and breezed through it this week; for extra horror- I watched with the dub.

It wasn't as extreme or shocking as I remembered watching the first time round- but very much worthy of its 15 certificate, and a good thing too.
Everything is a goddamn 12 these days, it's about time we saw something kids can't watch while accompanied by their parents. Am I right, Britgeeks?

Good news- from what I can tell at least- the release appears to be censorship-free; the only questionable moment I could find occurred during ep9- when we were denied a glorious blast of child-zombie brains with a cut to black:

Well, maybe that was just Madhouse losing their bottle...

The dub was satisfyingly bad... making it good. I liked the fact that I couldn't recognise many voices (actors)- although I did recognise Monica Rial's- thankfully though- this is one of her quieter roles.

I enjoyed rewatching the series a great deal, I can only hope now that the sales for this thing skyrocket and remind the relevant executives that a show doesn't need music-clubs and tea-breaks to sell, there's still a market for violence, horror and Gainaxing.

This anime is so atrociously bad on so many levelS. I think its perhaps an unintentional masterpiece! Never has an anime made me laugh so much! lol

The opening alone is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

I think it was like that in the original version, as well.

What is up with the BBC and censorship anyway?
