True for the hardcore but she really has managed to piss off tons of neutral people or folks who initally defended her too

Pissed them off how though? Oh, for daring to not live up to the insane purity standards of a bunch of jealous, hypocritical fuckwits who've taken the madonna/whore complex as a cultural badge of pride. Fuck the whole lot of the idiot manchildren who are holding the industry hostage to their kink.

Well, the reaction was quite predictable anyway. Why would she risk it? Even if one was to agree to 'oh it is her own business' it is still not considered right by the majority of the population to behave like that (I am not suggesting if this is right or wrong- just thinking how PEOPLE now would be reacting). ESPECIALLY people who got anything to do with entertainment. Any black marks like that ZZZZIIIPPP your head is rolling.

I just cannot believe she would jeopardise her career like that. I think that it might have been a set up ASSUMING she was as logical as I believe humans should be.

Her wiki page indicates she's dealing with some medical issues that would affect her career, so maybe she's just tired of dealing with it all. If she's screwed anyway she might as well have some fun while she can.

Hmmmm.

That might just be an excuse. I don't know. Even if that is true, she have essentially thrown away her responsibility as long as she is Aya Hirano. If she was able to get through DESPITE the problems, she might have gotten more good coverage and all that.

I guess her judgement was clouded.

Something that hasn't been touched on beyond "LOL OTAKU HATE WOMEN WHO HAVE SEX" is Aya's (or her talent agency's) decision to move away from voice acting, which alienated a lot of people who thought she was abandoning them and just used Haruhi/Lucky Star as a career stepping stone to move onto higher level work meant to entertain people who aren't social pariah. Oh and some retarded people like me who dislike her for acting reasons. So it's not all because she's a massive slut who should be flogged for being impure and daring to fornicate with men.

But again, she did that for medical reasons. Something about a tumor that, if removed, would permanently change her voice. What do people expect her to do? She's kinda screwed on that front.

The problem is that she didn't come out and make that clear, that was kept on the down-low while her talent agency tried to make her into a live-action star and shift her away from voice acting with no real communication with her fans. It wasn't like, "I'm sorry, conditions have prevented me from continuing to effectively voice-act, I am sorry to all my fans and I would like to thank you for your support, and I hope you can still support me in my new endeavor." She just kinda started shifting away from it and then the whole slut thing came out and it all snowballed from there.

It's the industry that's pandering to those manchildren on every level, because they know that by satisfying a niche market with easily gaugable likes and dislikes, they can make a steady buck.

If 2chan sings praises about the latest piece of garabage that one of the studios spat out, the whole industry will scramble to copy said garbage. If 2chan disowns the idol du jour, so will the studios.

The only people who could change the course of things are those who are working in the industy itself. Ballsy producers and visionary directors, if they sill exist.

^ He ruined his reputation in Japan after raving on about how he would save the anime industry with Fractale earlier this year. The series turned out to be one of the worst flops ever and some of the staff that worked on it still feel the consequences.

In his defense, he directed season one of Haruhi, and I was in the room with him when he apologized for what his former employers did to season two. This was back when he was visiting Otakon to promote Kannagi.

OK, you managed to lure me out, drinian, as I really have to say something here.

In Japan nobody considers Yamakan directed season 1 of Haruhi. His title is シリーズ演出 and it is an uncommon post that usually does not exist -- in fact I could think of only Idol@Master as the only other anime that has this post and this post definitely did not exist for other KyoAni works like Air, Clannad, K-On or Lucky Star. 演出 is commonly translated as director in English but this only applies to the case when it is linked with individual episode. In this "Series Enshutsu" post the work is more like a sub-director. For Haruhi Season 1, the director is Tatsuya Ishihara and the credit of director goes to him alone. Yamakan did direct the first 2 episodes of Haruhi Season 1 though.

Also the apology of Yamakan over a work of a studio which he had departed from and played no part in, in an overseas circumstances, struck many Japanese anime fans as odd and immaturely begrudging. It got a lot of bad press back in Japan, even from haters of Endless Eight.

As for the issue of Aya Hirano, I wonder how many times I had to explain that she got some really committed haters and mockers not because she had boyfriend (and thus implicitly slept with him) but had more to do with her style of writing in her blog (sounding boastful or self-centered), the flow of some really nasty rumors circulating in gossip magazines (sleeping with 3 out of 4 members of the band which played in her concerts is just one recent rumor that really hurt) and the perception that she is belittling her seiyuu past while boasting how much cooler it is to be in her new role as tv celebrity (at least until her new career got rocky).

Having said that, another gossip magazine alleged that "according to credible information" the "bed scene" photo now being circulated in the net was authentic. 2ch noticed the pillow in the photo had a pattern that seems identical to the Tinkerbell pillow photo posted by Hirano back on Jan 26 2010 so there are now a lot more people who believe the photo is real. Yet from a recent Livedoor news article, one "credible source from the industry" suspected it could be leaked by some people related to her agency in order to find a pretext to fire her, which indeed has happened -- her fan club "Hirano Juku" will close down on 20th this month -- to put an end to the endless argument between Hirano and her agency on what she should do in future and the increasingly intensive criticism of Hirano against her agency (which apparently got very unhappy since last Nov when she blogged that within her staff team there was nobody who knew any anime work she had worked in or any anime song she had sung). The termination of her music career was apparently also a way for the agency to apply pressure over Hirano. Hirano posted on her blog yesterday that she asked to leave and said she had been talking to her agency about leaving since last October. She even thanked her agency Spacecraft Entertainment for helping her since she started in the industry. And she said she has already found a new agency, which is the one which helped her in last year's live event -- 2ch is not sure which one it is (quite many think it may be Avex Trax which has big stars like Ayumi Hamasaki and Namie Anmuro under its belt). Haters focus more on her casual offhanded way ending the blog (something like "Yay, let's start from here!") which looked really out of place with the mood of the rest of the blog post.

BTW, Maaya Sakamoto (Mari in NME) just announced marriage on Aug 08 with Kenichi Suzumura, a seiyuu whom Sakamoto worked closely with on many anime in the past including MS Gundam Seed Destiny, SoulEater, Sakuran High School and Kara no Kyokai. 2ch offered only well wishes (although some worried about the reactions of the fujoshi). One more strike against those who imagined that anime otaku could never accept a female seiyuu to have boyfriend and get married.

As for the really nasty words said about the tastes of 2ch, I could only laugh -- it sounded like sour and bitter words coming from some marginalized members on the fringe of the society wondering why the society could not fit them. Whatever.
