You said you'd continue watching Macross 7, Xard. Come on, two episodes and you'll encounter another protodeviln (this one being a kaiju). Although after it appears then you get the metrosexual vampire who's basically his keeper. But you then get an actual demonic vampire three eps after that so it won't be too bad.

But there's stuff to look forward to!

Ep 27- Killer kaiju protodeviln
Ep 28- Someone so bad I consider him one of my least favorite anime characters (you might like him)
Ep 31- Valgo! *turns on heavy metal music* Also Basara actually kills something
Ep 34 or 5- Basara sings to alien dinosaurs
Ep 35 or 6- A planet goes boom and not one but TWO main characters die

And until they go to Varatua that's kind of it.

Personally I like the design of the head, it's unconventional and original. You can't expect a standard head design in a customized VF used by a civilian (of course I meant GERWALK before). Anyway in Dynamite he uses a conventional VF-19.

You're being really annoying, we're talking about anime here and not about "ice creams and abortion" (incomparable objects), Macross, Eva, Pop Chaser, they're all anime, I doubt that you can say that Pop Chaser could be bad just because I like Macross 7 or Gasaraki (yeah, obviously I'm less whining, bitching and pretentious than YOU but that's another story).
So let’s make a wish.

Watched the end of Ano Hana. Even with how contrived the scene at the shrine was the ending managed to be pretty good. It was largely a "safe" ending, but they pulled it off with enough skill to make it worth my time. Overall I rate the show a sold 8.5.

Ano Hana: Good God, I've never seen such a schmaltzy and melodramatic ending. Sure, from the perspective of story and character development it was perfect, but the approach to those conflicts was so over-the-top in drama that I felt alienated for the most part - well pretty much throughout the episode apart from one particularly tearjerking scene. If the rest of the show leading up to this show hadn't been so good I wouldn't have awarded it an 8 like I do now. Just barely reaches that rating with an ending so sloppily directed.

I will watch C's ending later today.

^ Schmaltzy and melodramatic ending is what I expected though. Did not see much of problem of directing, as it looks befitting the ending as envisioned in the screenplay. If there is a problem with the ending it is more an issue of the screenplay (but melodrama was precisely what I expected so I will not complain)

Anyway, today Ano Hana took all the TOP FIVE SLOTS of Amazon JP anime BD ranking !!! This is something last seen for PMMM (Madoka) although in PMMM's case the stranglehold lasted for weeks -- not sure if the same can happen with Ano Hana.

And the rating for the episode (and average for the whole series) also broke the record for NoitaminA (and of course much much better than Fractale of last season).

There's a point when overdoing melodrama is simply shitty. No excuses for that. I expected melodrama, but Ano Hana blew it.

Meanwhile ...

IT'S GREAT TO SEE THE MAD GENIUS NAKAMURA GOING ALL OUT AGAIN. It's such a shame that I can't give the show a better rating than Ano Hana or Nichijou because this ending is pretty much one of the most epic things I've ever seen. So unforeseeable yet makes so much sense. In short: SO. FUCKING. EPIC.

Ano hana final episode

Postby symbv » Fri Jun 24, 2011 2:49 am

Overdoing melodrama? I absolutely expected everyone crying until they drop. I could not expect less and the episode nailed it.
General approval and applause from 2ch and blogsphere in Japan for the final episode has pushed the sales of Ano Hana to top slots in ranking -- now the question is: Can it beat Tiger & Bunny?

Image

As for C, the general consensus in 2ch is it took so long to get interesting. Too many people dropped out before seeing much that could keep them awake in the middle of the night. Oh well.

The episode lost me in the first few minutes and never really got me back before the ED kicked in. It stumbled at the crucial point when it tried to suck me into an emotional rollercoaster. The voice actors were dragged too far into the SHOUTING AND SOBBING department, the way the characters spoke about their feelings didn't work that well as a plot device and there was really no break from the melodrama so the whole episode felt like one prolonged scene of everyone crying their eyes out.

I certainly agree with that. If I had not dedicated myself to noitaminA I would have dropped it by the time the 5th episode was aired. Even later in the series Nakamura screwed up a few things, but the way he put everything together in the last 3 episodes is absolute GOD TIER and to a great degree redeems the series for me.

^ That made it clearer -- now I know where you came from and I could certainly see why not everyone would find it to his liking. Actually I did not find myself moved to tears watching it but I believe if the screenplay meant to have this ending I think that would be how it will be done. So in summary not a bad effort here :)

[C] I gave up after 3 episodes. Writing the story so that it only picks up in the last third-quarter of the series clearly not works for a series (anime or otherwise)

*reads synopsis, having never heard of C*

What the ... Are you kidding me?
SPOILER: Show

An anime about ... dueling currencies? Is the whole thing an allegory for international currency exchanges or something?

As for the ending, according to this synopsis I saw of episode 11...

So, the US dollar becomes Japan's currency and as a result, everyone's futures get returned to them... What the hell does that mean, and secondly, why is it a happy ending for a country's currency to be destroyed and replaced by a foreign one? Especially the US dollar of all things, the Fed is currently printing those things like mad!

Obviously, I must now see this in order to understand it, because the sheer confusion running through me is compelling me to understand it.

The thematics are completely different, Monk Ed. The whole economy thing is just the framework even though it plays a central role on the surface level. It begins as a loleconomy version of Digimon, but takes lots of turns on its way to the end. You shouldn't have read about the final episode in advance since it's going to decrease its impact. And besides, that doesn't even reveal what the ending is all about. The most entertaining part of the show is to see how Nakamura puts everything together in the last few episodes - since the first half of the show is quite uneven in both animation and writing quality.

EDIT: Speaking of noitaminA shows, I'm going to take a break for now. I might as well share my current ranking of the shows I've seen so far:

3. Nodame Cantabile

Currently up to Episodes 05 and 06 of FMP: The Second Raid. So far this series has shaped up to be better than the first, so I'm pleased with that. Now that Sagara has learnt the power of raeg, interesting things should occur. Oh, and the humour is still good - certainly fits in better than the first season.

I think Fractale is being unfairly bashed just because Yamakan was too ambitious. The first half of the show was very good in my opinion - the setting was explored/built in an interesting way, the characters seemed to be on track for interesting development and Yamakan's direction was marvelous. Too bad he completely ruined the ending, which in turn destroyed the thematics and character development entirely.
