Hm... Is it just me or does Asuka's eye color seem to have changed to purple rather than blue?

I think her eyes do look more purple, but they're not that purple to me. It might just be your monitor.

Aren't the Newtype illustrations & covers made in house? As in these are not Khara produced images.

Even the last Eva related Newtype issue's cover illustration (June 2010) was done by Takeshi Honda the mech animation director for NME.

I wouldn't call her expression "sad", more like serious. But i agree with the ready for asskicking part.

Also, looking at the close up, I notice that the right boob protector doesn't look exactly like the unit 05 ones - the stripes on Mari's suit were parallel, these overlap.

...Poor Shinji and Rei, they are the only ones without pretty new suits. I think Rei got the palms of hers collored blue, but apart from that, they sorta look like they always did...

The expression seems to show shes thinking 'im going to kick Baka-Shinji's ass, then Little Miss FanService's ass for wrecking my Eva, then im going to kick your ass for looking at me like that....'

Eye-patches never caught my eye until I saw Baccano. Now I think of it as a hot visual character trait. And when I saw Asuka's eye-patch for the first time in the 3.0 preview, it was one of the few times I actually squealed over her appearance.

Yes. I squealed in theaters in front of everybody. I also cried twice during that showing. I'm not afraid to admit that.

The cover will feature Asuka? I thought Japanese fans favored Rei... I guess Asuka makes a better poster girl though.

Maybe it's a trick so they have to actually buy and open the magazine in the hope to find Rei pictures inside XD

Or they wanted to pander to the whining Asuka fapboys so they don't stop watching Rebuild after 2.X

Or(what I'd say is the likeliest explanation) - Asuka has a shiny new plugsuit to show off while Rei has not.

Heck, whether Rei has a body at all is debatable at this point. And what's happening with Asuka is much more interesting than what's happening with Rei (to me, anyway), so I see highlighting her as the big draw right now.

They can't make the third movie without the person that has been the main female lead for half of the tetralogy.
I still hope the pretty Rei pictures are inside. XD The various tricks mentioned above appear to have worked on both of us XD
