So, I only just noticed it, but its gots to have some kind of meaning. The rejected evangelions appear to have 3 eye holes. GNR also has a 'third' eye during 3rd impact. Ya know the part where the tree on life comes down, and a thrid eye opens up out her forhead. Well do you reckong theres any meaning to this?

The rejected Evas having three eyes may just be a coincidence. The skulls shown in the End of Evangelion's graveyard are shown as having up to seven eyes, so it stands to reason that a few would have three.

If I remember, some eastern mythologies/religions use a third eye as a symbol of spiritual enlightenment, or moving to the next stage of spiritual existence. Considering what GNR is doing, it seems like her third eye could be a reference to that. Or it could just be freaky imagery :P

As well as casual allusion to mystical notions of a third eye and its associations, it is, as skikes notes, another of Giant Naked Rei's many vulvae.

Third eye = unexpected avenue of vision = seeing differently, mystically, etc. = enlightenment/divinity. Which is also why I think that even if Unit 08 isn't literally Unit 01, they're meant to be somehow associated.

Ha ha, reminds me of the first time I watched 2.0. I was also pretty drunk, having come home from the bar, so I was just sitting there going "Holy shit..."
