So, what do you think? How EVA work as a Magical Soldier anime (think Cutie Honey, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew)?

This might be cheating, because it's itself riffing on a series that kicks mahou shoujo clichés to the kerb.

Assuming no interlopers -- well I guess Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu and Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? would have been pre-empted by over fifteen years (that henshin sequence )

Time will tell if [s]lethargy[/s] school work lets up enough for me to continue, but looking back on it I was hella lazy with backgrounds. I had this idea worked up that all Angels after the first would take the form of objects and wait until they were transported to the best position possible to attack NERV before transforming.

Really, you could communicate all the psychological undertones of Evangelion with just about anything else substituting for the Evas themselves; tennis matches, magical girl battles, trading card games, boxing...it's just that with magical girl anime, you can have Eva cross over with Card Captor Sakura.

EVA as a Shojo Manga? Such a thing exists, it's called Gakuen Datenroku.
Try it, it's one of the better spinoffs.
Has lots of Kaworu.

Correcting the terms by the OP because my inner shoujo-fangirl is weeping right now:

Mahojo Shoujo=Magical Girl, it's NOT mahojo senshi.

Shoujo=Girl (versus shounen=boy), in anime used to differentiate genre/subgenre of anime.

Girlfriend of Steel 2 manga (Angelic Days) and Gakuen Datenroku/Campus Apocalypse manga are somewhat in the shoujo-genre.

And Eva as a Shoujo anime would be amazing if done right. There's a hilariously awesome ancient copy/pasta somewhere on ANF that goes into how Asuka would be the lead, Shinji some prince and Rei as a rival/enemy with plenty of mahjo shoujo territory. (If only I could find the damn thing! )
