Which art book to get?

I am thinking about acquiring a couple of Eva artbooks, but since only Der Mond has been released stateside (and I have that one), I don't really know what are considered the good ones. Looking back on the older threads on this subforum, it appears that a book called Die Sterne is talked about very highly. So my question to the people who have these books is other than the one mentioned above, which art books would be considered worth the money since some of them are pricey? Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm pretty fond of my copies of Der Mond, Die Sterne, Sore o Nasumono, 2015 // The Last Year of Ryoji Kaji, and the Newtype 100% Collection.

Of the people here, I think Reichu and I have the most extensive collections. If there's a specific book you're looking into buying, she or I might be able to tell you more.

I've got Der Mond, Die Sterne 2.0, and all of the Groundworks. Out of that I'd definitely recommend Die Sterne 2.0, its got tonnes of stuff in it. The Groundworks are good, mostly for character designs and such, but probably not quite what you're looking for, as they are mostly storyboards with only a few colour pages at the start.

Alternatively, you could start collecting the Eva Chronicle magazines, they have lots of great art in them.

You should also consider Carimine. It's got some nice digital work from Sadamoto-sensei.

I've also been trying to get myself a copy of Die Sterne 2.0. If anyone can recommend somewhere reliable to get it from, let me know.

There are multiple copies of Die Sterne 2.0 on eBay. Looks like the typical price range is $50-$60. Shipping is the killer, as the copies are all over in Japan, which is less than preferable, because of cost, time, and the possibility of being lost in transit. I've never lost anything shipped from Japan, although I did once have a GameCube component cable that took 2 months to finally show up.

However, this response is classic.

If you have the bank for it, I say get the 1.0 Complete Works record. :P

If not, Die Sterne is great.

Again, thank you all for your suggestions.

Stripping Instrumentality: I don't think so.

EM: I've read a description of 2015, and I'm not too sure if that's one of the books I would like. But I do thank you for taking the trouble to tell me and everybody else.

At this point in time (I am trying to see if I can make some of these purchases more towards the end of the year), I think I will get the Carmine art book. A less expensive version is being relased in August. I heard it is very good, so I just wanted to let everybody else know if they're interested.

I didn't want to make an entire new topic for this, but what exactly is the difference between Die Sterne and Die Sterne 2.0? I'm asking because I just ordered the latter from Ebay and was sent the older edition instead, so I'd like to know if I'm missing out on anything worth filing a complaint over.

It's something of a 2nd edition which includes some new material. That's all I really know, I've been meaning to pick up a copy for comparative purposes.

If I recall correctly, there's an entire new section included in 2.0, which I think is mostly other artist's works of Evangelion and other Sadamoto characters.

So yeah, if I was you, I would definitely complain.

Is it possible to find it somewhere? Lately I've been checking ebay for the 2.0 Complete Works (until it showed up on amazon) but I never saw the 1.0 one.

I'd like to know as well how many additional illustrations have been added, I own my local edition of Die Stern which is surely the first edition, HLJ has a scan of one page that is composed of new illustrations that have been added in the 2.0 edition, it's the second picture with the illustrations of Refrain of Evangelion and the cover of NGE2 (for PSP) but I'd like to know how many additional illustration have been added (especially to know if they're not present in other artbooks).
So let’s make a wish.

Thank you IrkenEvangelion, somehow I never noticed it; I'd like to purchase it but it's really a little expensive (isn't it almost twice the cover price?).

Here's the second one brand new, and that's ¥ 26,800. They're expensive books.

If you want Eva artbooks, or just artbooks in general, hunt down the german versions.
They´re usually pretty cheap and get reprinted once in a while.
Since it´s just an artbook, the german won´t irritate you that much.

E.g.:€10~ for a Volume of german Groundworks of Evangelion

You might still be able to read it anyway. It's fairly easy to figure out German writing.
