Why do people want NERV logoed merchandise?

For talking about all other entries in the Evangelion franchise: from the various manga and video games to merchandising and various video/audio releases.

Why do people want NERV logoed merchandise?

I can understand why character related merchandise is desirable. But why is NERV (& SEELE) logoed merchandise popular?

NERV as an organisation, & its leader Gendou, are not nice at all, & would not be nice to work for or under. Why do fanfolk want to identify with it?

People like stuff with logos that represent their fandom. It's something fun to have, and if a fellow fan sees it you'll be identified immediately. It's not just Evangelion, but just about any popular work of fiction that has iconic logos involved, whether it's a Superman T-shirt or an Autobot insignia sticker on the back of your truck.

How about this:

Bring a mug with the Nerv logo stamped on it to work. Kinda makes you look like the "ooh, look at me, I'm the big boss with the cup with THE logo on it, and I f*ing work for Nerv, b*itches!"

Besides, it looks unique and..stands out, I suppose.

I'm going to use the HQ version of my avatar as a sticker for the back of my laptop... I also changed my BIOS and Bootscreen to the NERV logo. It's a really cool symbol, at any rate.
