Alright, if you haven't heard - Eva Manga 11 is out..I don't know if it just came out or not but I know its out now. If it is new then why is it that this is posted?

Stage 79? We never even got a properly labeled Stage 78. :P

And no one knows when it'll come out. New stages show up when they do, and we hear about them very quickly through the grapevine. So you can't do anything but wait.

Better not frkn kill Asuka off in the manga. Does anyone recall the Mass Production Evas even being mentioned in the manga? Because there's no part where Misato and Huygo? discuss the extra parts or Gendo on the plane.

He's allowed to kill her and then not show her show back to life as long as the ending is sufficiently ambiguous. ;)

We know the Kaworu dummy system is present (creepy scene with the Seele guys looking at naked Kaworu in a tube), so that pretty much gives you your answer.

the manga series is infamously slow to come out; volume 11 (well, the uncollected chapters that make it up) were released in Japan MANY years ago

and really, anyone that really cared about them got the scanlation or import already

not exactly earth-shattering that its coming out now

...you mean as one volume, or when the initial "Stages" came out?

Ah, ah. Constituent stages, then. The butt-end of Volume 11 came out about two years ago, and the Volume 10 tankouban (as a quick reference point) was published in 2006. "MANY years ago" is still a gross exaggeration. The manga was started "MANY years ago".

Huh-huh-huh...you said "butt."

Of course, there is a new the-creator-actually-will-get-money-from-this-English-version of an Evangelion manga coming out in June, Dark Horse's The Shinji Ikari Raising Project. And don't forget, you can send in your fan mail and art to evangelion(at)darkhorse(dot)com.

Out of curiosity, approximately how many submissions have you received so far?

I know. I'm really looking forward to that!

Approximately not very many. In fact, the best piece thus far was one done by a student from SCAD that I saw at the Artist's Alley in Anime Weekend Atlanta, and I asked, "Uh...uh...I'm editor of The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, and..." Fortunately, they were cool with the idea of running it in the manga.

What I'd like to do with Shinji Ikari is sort of bring back the "Misato's Fan Service Center"-style letters column that used to exist in Sadamoto's Evangelion, when it was coming out in the U.S. as a monthly comic book (i.e., 1997-2002). It's not really like it's an art contest, but my goal is to get in some interesting, offbeat Eva pieces and comments, whether serious or funny.

Isn't it easier if we pop in where Sadamoto may be and ask directly if he is actually drawing it? (Address is quite wonderful hee-hee... from the Sensei's wonderful connections)

I actually did run into him this last spring. He said he was sorry it was taking so long. But Mr. Sadamoto has always been this way, dating back to his first professional manga in the 1980s. Everybody knows that's just the way it is. Although his manga looks highly professional (when it comes out :)) , I don't think he's ever defined himself as a professional manga artist per se--the #1 qualification for which, is an ability to turn out manga on a regular schedule. On the other hand, he is a professional character and mecha designer, illustrator, and animator. I see Mr. Sadamoto as kind of like Shirow Masamune, as someone who's quite capable of making amazing manga, but prefers to do illustration and design.

This actually isn't the first, but rather, the second time there has been a two-year gap in him drawing new chapters to the manga...if I recall, the first time was between 1997 and 1999. So even that isn't new ;)

*Gasps in admiration* Oh my. I would like to say in big bold letters, 'You lucky so and so', but I guess that lacks finesse.

Is it then possible, to put pressure on Sadamoto? And also, as it takes so long, could he be actually working on it, just being very slow, or being a bloody perfectionist?

Sadamoto does have the new movies to distract him at this time. I'm not quite sure how involved in the process he is (I can't really penetrate the interviews with him), but I know he's back at the animator's desk, at least.
