You, good sir or madam, have won all my internets!!!

I've been in the gradual process of transliterating as well as translating this song, and now I don't have as much work to do. :smirk:

(In other words: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!)

(Yet another one of the many things for me to finish once I'm on my next school break...)

Would getting back to you the week after Easter be okay? :sweatdrop:

It was the new Eva song on the album Evangelion Decade.

If all goes well I should have it translated sometime early next week. :boingy:

One more thing: There was a music video of it done by Masayuki featuring Rei. If you see a video that starts and ends with real life water rippling, it's probably that.

Okay first off I fixed some of the Romanized Kana that was off in terms of pronouncing it (most ha being said as "wa" and wo being said as "o").

And here's what I came up with. If you find it to be too Engrishy I can fix the translation at next weekend or something:

天国の記憶 Tengoku no Kioku (Memories of Heaven)

Sung by: Megumi Hayashibara/綾波 レイ Ayanami Rei

Translation by: Sailor Stardust ([email protected])
You may use this translation, but PLEASE give me credit (my name and Email address) it you post it anywhere (anime lyrics sites, etc.)

Somebody, somewhere, is attracted by the excitement
Of meeting by chance

A time when the hour stops, as if rewinding it
Causes destiny to stir

I forget only for the sake of
Carrying my name, all of reality plays but

The warmth of your hand
To only be born from before
I remember why I am in pain

Sometime, something, will change two people
The end of that distant day

Amidst happiness, hidden sadness
Snatches away a smile

This memory from Heaven continues
I often take along how much
I can’t unfasten my hurt
A thread of thorns that seem to invite love

Seeking an escape
I warp Karma in an embrace

I forget only for the sake of
Carrying my name, all of reality plays but

The warmth of your hand
To only be born from before
I remember this unknown soul

Bump in case those who are interested of the above translation will notice this.

And yes, I would like feedback if what I came up with was too Engrishy or not.

Somebody, somewhere, comes together passionately (in this case)
Have met (if we use Shakesparean words for description, it will be star-crossed)

The clock that have stopped time that seems to wind it back
Destiny moves (forward)

To be forgotten for
Ones with names will play (or enjoy) in the present
The warmth of your hand
Before I was born
I remembered for some reason I was sorrowful

Some day something will change between the two
Into the future (the shortest way to make this meanigful)

Behind the bliss hiding in sorrow (or buried)
Takes away the smile

Continuation of my memory
I bring myself many times from heaven
No matter how many injuries inflicted
It cannot be undone
The string of thorns that must be what is called love

In wanting to escape to seek
To be embraced by the disturbed/warped karma

To be forgotten for
Ones with names will play (or enjoy) in the present
The warmth of your hand
Before I was born
It (it is an 'it' instead of 'I' as before) remembered this nameless soul

This is my version. (repoduction of this is allowed, but must be credited, like other translations I have done)

Well one rendition sounds like a song... And yes SSD, that is soundly accurate. A translated work like song lyrics or poetry is never really wrong unless it's inaccurate, or if it loses it's original meaning which yours retained. One can always make changes, but it's not really necessary--you do have to take a certain liberties with these sorts of things, especially if it flows better. Good job.

My own translations would be trying to keep its meaning as closest as possible, from my point of view, but I have to disregard the 'shape' of the song, just to say.

Ahh, so it's this song that's in this video... :rei_blush:

Tried my hand at a translation as the song is nice and noticed there were lots of faults in the kana and kanji which I tried to fix, but I might have introduced more errors. :dunce:

So far I've got up to fourth line:

誰か。何処か。激しい心惹かれいて、
Dare-ka. Doko-ka. Hageshii fuhikareite,
Who? Where? Intensely attracted,

巡り合いて仕舞うー。
meguriaite shimau~.
but the chance meeting ended.

時を止めた時計巻き戻すみたいに、
Toki-o tometa tokei makimodosu mitai ni,
Time stopped, it seemed the clock rewound,

運命が動く。
unmei-ga ugoku.
yet fate was spurred onwards.

Compared to Imperialist and SSD I'm getting something different, comparison:

Sailor Star Dust wrote:誰か どこか 激しく惹かれて
めぐり逢ってしまう
時を止めた時計 巻き戻すみたいに
運命が動く

dare ka doko ka hageshiku hikarete
meguriatte shimau
toki o tometa tokei makimodosu mitai ni
unmei ga ugoku

Somebody, somewhere, is attracted by the excitement
Of meeting by chance
A time when the hour stops, as if rewinding it
Causes destiny to stir

The Imperialist wrote:Somebody, somewhere, comes together passionately
Have met
The clock that have stopped time that seems to wind it back
Destiny moves

Here goes the more detailed translation:
Somebody. Somewhere, with their whole heart's passion,
They could not stop their rendevous.
Like winding back the clock which has stopped all time
The cycle of fate moves on. (This is most probably referring to kharmic cycles)

I might look further, if I have to time.
Zuggy, the translation is quite good, but the second line was a kind of 'They have met, even though they might have not wanted to' kind of sense.
